Happy Fall, My Faithful Friend and Sponsor!
It is me, the beautiful Olive, your favorite self-proclaimed Director and Queen of the Tabby’s Place Lobby. With the help of an old friend, I am writing my very own update this month (introductions and more on this friend later, so stay with me!).
Important things first though, and you guessed it—that means filling you in on ME! There are very few things more important to talk about than me!
I have been gazing out the lobby doors and watching the leaves magically drop from the sky. Oh, how I love the fall season. I am always excited when October rolls around! This is our big month, as we celebrate the anniversary of Tabby’s Place. Twenty-one years of helping cats like me when we needed it the most! We all realize this would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors and donors, to whom we are so grateful.
I am also excited as October brings one of my favorite holidays—Halloween! I just LOVE planning my costume each year, waiting for a day full of feline tricks and treats! What is my costume this year, you ask? Well, you will just have to read next month’s update to find out! I will tell you, there had best be plenty of treats on hand as my reward for the Halloween tricks that I am planning!
So, my good news for you is that I have been in pretty fine health this month. I spend my days sitting on my throne, thinking about what I can do to spice up life in the lobby. I hate to tell you, but I have been pulling at my chest fur a bit again, and my staff is still perplexed why I do this. While it is fun to keep them on their toes a bit, I have noticed they are keeping an even closer eye on me. Just between us…that extra attention is welcomed!
Here is the thing I share only with you … I have been listening to the staff whispering in the lobby the last few months, and I keep hearing my name, the word “diet,” and something about “for my own good.” Maybe you can enlighten me, because I admit, diet isn’t part of my vocabulary, and I just don’t get what this really means. From what I have heard (and no, I do NOT eavesdrop), it has something to do with an increase in my weight. Of course, my lobby friends keep telling me not to worry about it, because I am beautiful just as I am.
Who am I to argue with that?
But I wonder if they are being completely honest with me, because they all know better than to say anything unkind to me … my response might be less than sweet. I fear there is a correlation between this diet thing and the lack of treats in the lobby these last few months. My servants tried telling me there is a treat shortage from the manufacturer, but from what I overheard the Community Room cats saying as they were laughing, this so-called shortage only applies to me and the Lobby Cats. I know where they hide the treats, so with the help of my friends Hips and Trent, we just helped ourselves the other day. That will teach our staff to restrict the treats!
So, back to that old friend part. Allow me to introduce my new personal correspondent and servant, Elizabeth. I took the liberty of instructing her what to write for this update, in order to show her the ropes and teach her how I expect my updates to go. So, thank you for your patience as I get her into the routine.
I first met Elizabeth back in March when her son Johnathan (one of my handsome volunteer friends) introduced her around. She loves all of us lobby kitties, and we do enjoy her visits (except when it was about learning bladder expression, that is). I am always happy to have another servant, and she is a quick learner about doing things The Olive Way.
You know how I said there are very few things more important than me? Well, I must admit what is more important than me, and that is you, my kind and faithful sponsor. Your generosity brings joy to my days, and I am ever grateful to you.
All this talking with Elizabeth has been exhausting, so I think it is time for me to catch up on a little of my beauty sleep. I have a nice cushion under the reception desk in the lobby, and that is one of my choice spots for naptime (as long as someone else has not occupied my spot).
We have a new lobby mate, Jack, and unfortunately, when he starts purring he can be heard throughout the entire lobby. As long as everyone listens to me and stays quiet, I should be able to catch a few winks before my next meal arrives. So until our next update…..
Lots of Love,
Olive
