Update for Olive

Drinks are on Olive!

Greetings, Olive Lovers!

It’s time for another update on our feisty girl. And it seems that “feisty” really is the best adjective to describe Olive over the past month.

She’s been struggling with some constipation, and, as our Development Coordinator noted, that will make anyone a bit grumpy. Above all else, Olive has decided that she shouldn’t have to wear diapers any longer. She’s become very adept indeed at removing them, far more than she once was. Sometimes, she becomes so vocal when a staffer is expressing her that putting a diaper back on her just isn’t viable.

Lobby greeter greets a little one!

I was in to see Olive a few Saturdays ago. You’ll recall that, last month, I saw Prescott sniff Olive thoroughly without Olive reacting. It seemed incredible. But this time, I saw Farva, a very active feline, come close to Olive. Now, Olive was half-asleep, and Farva didn’t get as close to her as Prescott, but several times, he was not more than 6 inches away from her. Once again, there was no reaction. Can it be that our lobby greeter is truly starting to mellow around other felines? Of course, it’s entirely possible that what I’ve seen has been circumstantial (or a plot), but only time will tell. Watch this space for future developments!

The main lobby of Tabby’s Place is divided from Quinn’s Corner by double glass doors. Lately, Olive has taken to standing guard at these doors. There are signs up on both sides of the doors, warning people coming and going to watch for “door runners”—cats trying to sneak into areas where they shouldn’t be.

I can do it! I can sneak into Quinn’s Corner! Maybe Hips will help.

I don’t understand how Olive can move so quickly when she’s a paraplegic, but on Leap Day, someone had the door between the two areas open for a second too long, and Olive made it through into Quinn’s Corner. She seemed very pleased with herself. You can’t simply pick up Olive; she won’t tolerate that. But using a hoodie, a staff member was able to shepherd Olive back into the main lobby. We know that’s not the last time she’ll get into Quinn’s Corner, but we’ll be ready…

Olive continues to keep us on our toes, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for helping us help this special little girl.
