Update for Olive

Lobby Greeter in 2019

Happy November, Olive Aficionados!

It’s time for another update on our black-and-white lobby greeter.

Not much has changed in that sense since 2019 (see the photos!)–she has maintained her front door greeter position for years!

Our girl has been keeping us on our toes, as usual. When I went in for a visit recently, she was sitting by the door, with an “Oooh, pet me, please!” expression on her face. She even seemed to lower her head slightly, as though she wanted to head butt me (when a cat head butts you, it’s a sign that he/she considers you part of the tribe).

Official Lobby Greeter 2023–she hasn’t moved much in 4 years!

Of course, I reached out to pet her, but only on her head (this IS Olive, after all). The affability lasted for about thirty seconds, after which she snapped at me. Considering that I’ve seen her pull the same thing on visitors, you’d think I’d know better by now, but she’s so cute I can’t help wanting to pet her.

The Tabby’s Place staff continues to think outside the box, and you’d better believe that’s invaluable when we have so many cats with so many personalities. We had noticed that Olive’s constipation was somewhat worse, so she’s on a higher daily dose of lactulose. I have never met a cat that was happy about taking lactulose, which is a very thick liquid. But some genius on our staff recalled to mix Olive’s lactulose with one of those squeeze-from-the-package lickable cat treats. The result? Our feisty girl will now happily scoot over to the staff for her “special treat,” and we can get the lactulose into her with no stress on anyone’s part.

Hmmm… what can I plot to do now?

If you live near Tabby’s Place and happen to have an hour or two free between noon and 4 PM on Sunday, November 19th, please join us for Thanksgiving with the Cats. There will be refreshments, tours of Tabby’s Place (and if you haven’t yet seen Quinn’s Corner, our new addition, you must check it out—it’s beautiful!), a silent auction, and lots of feline cuddles. You can even help us feed our feline residents a special Thanksgiving meal! We ask that you please bring a donation of toys, treats, canned cat food, or non-clumping litter. Hope to see you there!

Another year is ending. We live in troubled times, but to understand that there are people like you, people willing to reach out and help us nurture and cherish Special Needs cats, fills my heart with joy and gratitude. I hope that Thanksgiving sees you surrounded with friends and loved ones and a full table. Just don’t save any turkey or stuffing for Olive, no matter what she tells you.
