Update for Newman

Greetings, Team Newman!

Happy August to Newman’s fabulous friends. Newman continues enjoying the sun and warmth during the peak of summer.

In the wonderful world of Tabby’s Place, we have much to celebrate. Thanks to our amazing donors, this year’s Linda Fund Matching Challenge was the most successful in the history of Tabby’s Place. With your help, we topped last year (which was our all-time record) by over $34,000 — all of which will go towards life-saving emergency and specialty care for cats like our Special Needs crew. Thank you for your generosity and all-around awesomeness.

Newman’s world has had a little shake up this month, as suitemate Lester continues to have issues with diarrhea. Medication hasn’t been enough to help Lester, so our vet team has started him on a prescription diet. Unfortunately, this impacts all his suitemates. Hopefully, though, it’s just a temporary change. Newman and his roommates are adjusting okay and looking forward to getting back to the normal routine soon.

Buddy (pictured below), has been somewhat elusive to yours truly in the past, yet willing to make eye contact and give me a smile — a Buddy smile. Recently, he was in the solarium at the top of the ramp (just out of reach, as usual) and I started to sing to him. This usually causes all humans in earshot to run for the hills.

But, before I knew it, Buddy’s smiles turned into action, and he
was visiting with me like we had been friends forever. Perhaps he thought I was someone else, someone who sings as ‘uniquely’ as I do. No matter what he thought, he certainly made my heart melt. He is a special little guy.

Buddy will always be Newman’s best friend. Just recently, I witnessed Buddy giving Newman a head bonk like only Buddy can do. But it seems Newman’s developed a new bond this month. Our cheerful boy has been keeping company with Chachi, often sharing a hammock in the solarium with his elderly neighbor.

Newman is a case study in the serenity of cats, as he welcomes newcomers to Suite FIV without so much as a hiss. Where most humans (present company included) would be more than a little miffed by a random new person suddenly moving into their homes, Newman has happily welcomed a long line of cats to Suite FIV, most recently McNulty, Amos, Chachi and Dwayne. Perhaps Newman is chairman of the welcoming committee. He is certainly doing a fabulous job!

Newman sends you his love and gratitude, for all you do and for all your love. Life is so much sweeter for him with you in his life. Have a fabulous month!
