Update for Newman

Happy Spring to Newman’s adorers,

Newman sends you spring flowers from his perch near the FIV+ suite door. You see, that is the best spot to fulfill his unofficial but very serious job as official greeter to anyone who might be “spring”ing through the door.

I’ve noticed that he sometimes keeps one ear turned toward the door in his quest to be completely prepared. If you look closely, you will see it in this picture. One might think this anxiousness to greet has something to do with hunger pangs, but it doesn’t seem to matter too much what time of day it is.

We’ve had lots of comings and goings in Suite FIV this month. There is a brand new face here, and his name is Chachi. He slept right through my visit, so I didn’t get a chance to officially meet him, but I understand he is a sweet boy. Poor guy has an upper respiratory infection and is on medications to get on a path to recovery.

Recent newcomer Amos (pictured below left) is starting to settle in, and was brave enough to sleep out in the open, while still being on full alert for any non-feline intruders. He kept close tabs on me, and when I wasn’t looking, made a quick move to go into hiding under the cabinet. Well, at least it’s a start. He is trying, and that is all we can ask of him.

In other medical news, Newman’s roommate Bunk found a loving permanent foster home with one of our volunteers. Bunk has been in fragile health, but he is very happy in his new home and being immensely spoiled.

March was a triumphant month for our happy-go-lucky Newman. His regular bloodwork and urine test results were all good — so good, in fact, that there’s no evidence whatsoever of liver problems. This is the first time this has been the case since Newman was diagnosed with his liver shunt. It bodes beautifully for his health, of course, but it’s also an encouragement we can share with potential adopters. Newman’s flirted with adoption many times over, only for his admirers to be alarmed by the liver shunt. Newman, of course, isn’t alarmed by anything, and delights in every visit he gets.

And, dear sponsors, he especially delights in your loving and devoted support. Thank you for all you do, and for being Newman’s constant friend.

Have a great month!
