Update for Newman

Greetings to Newman’s sponsors,

What a glorious month of June this has been. On a recent fabulous Sunday, I stumbled upon the Kitten Shower at Tabby’s Place, and a book reading and signing for Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper. I have yet to read it, but based on the turnout, it is one amazing book. Be sure to check it out.

Newman, however, was unfazed by this event and just carried on like it was any other day. Hmmm, early afternoon, it must be nap time, right? It doesn’t matter that 50 people are in the lobby watching your every move (or lack thereof). He likes to play it cool. The only thing that stirred him was a fellow volunteer offering him a treat in the solarium. It was an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Wolfie also joined us in the solarium, and he was quite playful. Wolfie was diagnosed with fatty liver disease and is being treated for it. His bloodwork is improving, and although he is still sporting his fancy collar for feedings (as you can see here), he is eating much better on his own and is now able to spend his days and evenings with his buddies in Suite FIV rather than hunkered down in our hospital.

On the medical front, Newman is doing pretty well. He had a triumphant final recheck in the saga of the mycoplasmosis. It’s official: the mycoplasmosis mayhem is over.

After Nemwan’s late roommate Jean Valjean developed the condition in 2014, we tested all the FIV+ cats for it; Newman and Charlie came up positive. Although they fortunately did not display any symptoms, mycoplasmosis can cause anemia, so we’ve been retesting Newman and Charlie’s blood regularly ever since. This month marked Newman’s final recheck, and all was normal. 🙂 We couldn’t be happier for our bouncy boy.

You make this all possible for Newman. Thank you for your generous support, love and devotion to him. You are the best!

Have a great month,
