Update for Newman

Dear Newman supporters,

Happy July — and, finally, here in New Jersey, happy sunny days to you. We have had quite a streak of stormy weather. From Newman’s perspective, not a lot has changed except for the steaminess of the solarium. That doesn’t keep him away, though; it just slows him down a little.

This is exactly where I found him on a very warm day in early July: in the solarium, taking a nap. But before I had the door open, he was up and ready to go. I was grateful that he indulged me and let me pick him up to say hello. We spent some time playing, but it didn’t take long before a rest was needed and the toys were up for grabs. Juju must have heard us, and she came outside to see what was going on. She was hesitant, but she eventually played with me. She is a more confident girl these days, and that is wonderful to see. Here she is (below) taking a well needed break on such a warm day.

Newman has had some recent weight loss, and our vet team is running a full panel of bloodwork run just to cover all bases. A handful of potential adopters have asked about Newman recently, apparently willing to consider FIV, but a bit put off by the idea of his liver shunt. This is a tricky thing: Newman’s liver shunt is so mild that he requires no medication, and the odds are excellent that he will never suffer any ill effects from it. However, there is always the possibility that it could become serious (as, alas, it did for Ike, who had a much more severe liver shunt). Adopters are understandably leery of potentially having their hearts broken, but we still believe that Newman’s sweetness is bound to land him a home eventually.

We had some very said news in the FIV+ suite recently, as our sweet boy Dillinger has passed. Surely he’s happy now that he is playing again with Dusty and Nuttin’. We will miss him terribly here in the Suite.

Thank you, dear sponsors, for being so loving, kind and generous to sweet Newman. You bring a smile to his face every single day!

Until next month, be well and stay cool.
