Update for Newman

Happy Valentine’s week, dear Newman supporters.

Evasion – that was Newman’s strategy during my recent visits. I came to see him, and he was tucked in a wonderful, snuggly bed, which was tucked in a snugglier little cubby. For my greetings and cheer that I wished him, I got the tiniest little head ‘lift’ I’ve ever seen. Always respectful of his wants, I turned my attention to all of Newman’s suitemates and had a great time with them. They were all up! Although not exactly energetic, everyone was interested in spending the time to catch up with me. I checked on our little sweetie before saying goodbye, and he didn’t even seem to know I was there. So, I wished him well and promised I’d come back soon when he was up to a visit.

After much thought, I decided that right around afternoon dinner time might be a good ‘up time’ for everyone. Did I mention that Newman is being evasive this month? Oh yes! Well, this time, I walked down the hall and readied myself to go into the FIV+ suite when I looked up and saw Newman in the over-head walkway to go outside to the solarium. He was awake this time! I encouraged him to come inside the suite as I went in.

I quickly realized why Newman barely budged though.

Our dear Hobbes was in the other end of the walkway with his head sticking out into the suite – he had Newman’s path blocked! I visited with the gang and encouraged Hobbes to give up his prime spot, but he wouldn’t budge. Finally, I decided I’d bite the bullet and head out into 29 degree weather.

Newman was ecstatic. We were out there alone (hmmm, I wonder why?!!), and he was loving it. There were no suitemates to compete with in the great outdoors this time of year.

This wonderful one-on-one time was short lived, however, as the one of us was without fur got cold rather quickly. Since I wasn’t about to say goodbye yet, I scooped up sweet Newman and carried him back inside to the suite. He thanked me initially, but within five minutes, guess who was heading outside again? And so, I said my goodbyes and wished everyone warmth and snuggles.

Thank you, dear sponsors, for giving Newman the comfort and love that he deserves. May your Valentine’s be filled with love and kindness.
