Happy February, Team Moo Moo!
With XOXO’s from me to you!
January has come and gone, and so has Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day. Many have already given up on what they said they wanted to do this year. Not me! I’m still fully committed to my resolution to become a more cultured cat. Every day, I make a point of working on my appreciation of art and beauty.
February is a great time to appreciate art and beauty! It’s the month we observe Valentine’s Day, a celebration of love and affection. That’s a beautiful thing!
With love in the air this month, I asked myself if I might find romance. I’m an older girl, but it’s never too late to fall in love. Unfortunately, after careful consideration, I didn’t quite see a path to an affaire d’amour this Valentine’s Day. My dating pool here in the lobby is pretty limited.
Trent and Hips are totally smitten with the beautiful Prescott. That’s OK. To be honest… they’re really fun to be around, but they’re a little immature for a cultured girl such as me. Prescott is charmed by their adoration, but even she rolls her eyes sometimes.

Sunshine-colored Murdock is a light in everyone’s life. He’s so handsome and sweet. I think so highly of him that I’d put him on a pedestal if he wasn’t already so good at getting up on one all by himself. Alas, he is very young, and I am not a cougar. I love him like a little brother.
Ah, Bello. Both of us are older, both of us have asthma, and both of us are mellow and gentle. We’re so much alike – except for the sleep position! Bello has no inhibitions, and often naps belly up with his legs sprawled. I’m far too dignified to find that appealing. Besides, he takes up too much space sleeping that way to be a suitable cuddle buddy. I’ll continue to love him as a friend.

I guess I’ll just have to keep my eyes open. New residents arrive all the time. Just recently, fourteen newcomers arrived from very far away. They’re war survivors from Lebanon who were rescued from damaged buildings or found dazed and alone. Here is a blog about them: The Fab Fourteen. Many wonderful people were involved with the arrangements to transport them to the US and Tabby’s Place. We haven’t met any of them yet because they’re still finishing their quarantine period. Maybe a new friend awaits!
February also seems to be a time for beautiful words. I’ve noticed that a lot of human people read and write love poems in February. I find this interesting. I decided that my art appreciation this month is poetry! I’ve been exploring this genre (that’s a very cultured word) on the computer. What? You didn’t know that cats memorize your passwords while we’re “helping” you work?
I Googled famous poets, and this Robert Frost human came up. He must have been a pretty good writer because four of his poems won a Pull-it-surprise. Those are really good toys! There are those fishing pole ones, where you catch and pull the feather thing and it springs away. Some toys have catnip surprises inside when you pull them apart. The kind where the string gets pulled and the critter races away, are exceptionally fun to chase. I wonder, if you win, do they give you a catalog, and you get to choose what you want?
A brilliant idea occurred to me. I could look for one of his poems that didn’t win. It would probably be pretty good already. If I could improve it somehow, maybe I could win a Pull-it-surprise!
One of his most famous poems is Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening. It is really good, but I could see right away why it didn’t win. It was the subject matter! What’s so great about stopping and standing in the snow? It’s freezing cold and you get icy feet! Everyone I know would be getting inside and onto a warm lap as fast as their paws could carry them. This poem would be the perfect choice for reimagining.
Here’s my remake. Sorry Mr. Frost if you’re looking down from heaven, but all my friends say my version is much better!

Stopping by Dish for a Second Feeding
Whose dish this is I think I know.
He’s on the chair still sleeping so;
He will not see me stopping here
To eat his dinner nice and slow.
The other cats must think it queer
To eat his food with him so near
I’ve eaten mine, still his I’ll take
My hunger’s big this time of year!
He gives his furry head a shake
And asks if there is some mistake.
Then lets out an astonished weep
Who ate my meal for heaven’s sake!
My tummy’s full, I ate a heap,
But I have looks I must upkeep,
And face to wash before I sleep,
And paws to wash before I sleep.
Wish me luck! If I win a Pull-it-surprise, I’ll let you know which toy I receive!
There’s a big event happening today, February 15th. It’s the Your Feline Valentine Sponsor-A-Cat Event. The first hour from noon-1 pm is devoted to sponsors (that’s you!) so you can dote on the cat(s) you sponsor (that’s me!). Then from 1 – 4 pm, the general public can come and meet all the sponsorable kitties. I can hardly wait! I hope I get to see you. Correspondent Nancy will be here with me. There will be nice refreshments and cat merchandise shopping. Guests can tour our home. And…drum roll…the identity of the newest sponsorable cat will be revealed. It’s a mystery. We’re all waiting to hear who it is.
I’ll be very, very happy for whomever is chosen. I feel so fortunate. It’s wonderful having someone in your life who cares about you enough to sponsor you.
Dearest sponsor, I feel your love every day. You help me stay healthy and happy. I hope you know I love you too, on Valentine’s Day and every day.
Love,
Moo Moo
