Update for Mary

Update for Mary

Welcome to November, my beloved sponsors!

We are slowly transitioning to cooler weather setups here at Tabby’s Place. Our wonderful volunteers and staff are putting heated beds out in the solarium for us outdoor-loving kitties to snooze in, along with heated bowls so our water doesn’t freeze. All of this because of your sponsorship! I can never thank you enough.

So much to be grateful for, and it reminds me how lucky I am that I ended up at Tabby’s Place. But before that fateful day, I was living at another animal shelter that I adored as well. I still miss my friends that I met there.

And guess what? Sharon, one of my friends from that shelter, still sponsors me here at Tabby’s Place! How fabulous is that?! And this month, Sharon wrote to the Tabby’s Place humans and sent a picture of me from when I was at her shelter in 2015. I did not remember this, but apparently my name was “Boots” then. Crazy, right? I am so used to being called “Mary” that I can’t imagine myself as Boots.

I am including the picture that Sharon sent in this month’s update, so you can see me cuddling with Russell the kitten and Lewis the dog. We make a pretty darn cute pile of creatures, don’t we? I’m sure it doesn’t surprise you that my habit of curling up with other furry friends started many moons ago! My correspondent shared Sharon’s beautiful email with me, and it brought tears to my eyes. Sharon, I hope you know how much I miss you and love you! Thank you for continuing to sponsor me!

So earlier this month, we discovered a wound of unknown origin on my rear end. I guess this isn’t shocking, considering all of the drama that I experience back there on a regular basis. My super fantastic vet team cleaned up the wound immediately and examined it to determine a wound care routine. It involves warm compresses and an application of an antibacterial ointment twice a day. Since I am so sensitive to any touch on or near my rear end, the staff are super careful to distract me with loving words and pets until I get settled comfortably on the warm washcloth. And as you well know, my incontinence adds a layer of risk to any messing around back there… so the staff makes sure they are careful and prepared for the inevitable leakage. They should all be sainted, I swear!

I wish I could somehow magically stop leaking poop all the time, but sadly that dream may never come true, which is why I am so profoundly thankful for my life here at Tabby’s Place, where I am loved and cared for no matter what. Your sponsorship makes that possible! I am happy to report that my wound is healing nicely, and my wound care routine will hopefully end soon. Although I will not miss the warm compresses on my rear end, I will miss all of the extra hugs and kisses!

My correspondent and I had a video call the other day, and we caught up on all the goings-on since we last saw each other. She sounded sad because the human holiday of Thanksgiving will be so strange this year without the typical family gatherings. But I reminded her that visiting me and all of the other kitties here is still possible in COVID world, and that cheered her up. She told me that she sometimes likes animals better than people anyway!

Along with Sharon’s picture, I am including other pictures taken by some of my besties for you to enjoy. One is me staring out into our lovely backyard from one of my favorite spots in our solarium. You’ll see me getting cozy with my friend Angelo, who is the kitty with mostly white fur and bits of black around his ears. You’ll also see me entwined with Chewbacca, who is another member of my favorite cuddle buddy club. Chewie is the kitty with the brown tiger-striped head and a white stripe down his nose. There is a photo of me returning from a butt bath… not my favorite thing, as you can probably tell. Can you find my buddy Steven photobombing me from the tube door? He is such a goofball.

I hope that you enjoy your November, wherever you are, and I will write again soon. Remember that I love you with all of my furry grey heart!

Until next month, be kind to one another.

Love,
Mary
