Update for Mary

Dear Mary Sponsors,

Here we are in October, my dearest friends. It is the traditional month of costumes and candy, two things that humans seem to love. Personally, I don’t get it… but I rarely understand things that humans get all worked up about. As you know, I am more of a laid-back type of gal, but I do still have my bursts of hyper energy when I get inspired to play with a toy.

Anyway, my correspondent was just telling me that she is getting her costume ready for her niece’s Halloween party. She is dressing up as her favorite character from some program called “Stranger Things,” which sounds rather spooky and not up my alley. She swears she is a wimp too and that the show is not super scary, but just the title makes my fluffy grey fur stand up on the back of my neck.

She is also quite thrilled about something she called “mellowcremes,” are a type of something she called “candy corn.” She said it is only available this time of year and she always stocks up. How funny, these things that humans focus on! But she was petting me the whole time that she was telling me these random things, so I didn’t mind one bit. I can listen to humans talk about their human things all day if they will sit with me and pet me.

You will see from my pictures that I am attaching to this month’s update that my correspondent and I had quite a cuddle session during her last visit. She found me snuggled up and sound asleep in a cozy bed. Our suite has these fantastic cubbies that always have soft beds in them, just waiting for one of us to be in the mood to take a nap. And since we are all cats, the urge to nap is pretty much a constant in our lives. These lovely cubbie holes are just there for the taking, and believe me, I take full advantage!

You’ll see me snoozing in one of my favorite triangle cubbies in the picture, and then the other picture shows how happy I was to greet my correspondent when she arrived. I pressed my cheek down into her hand as she petted the side of my head and scratched behind my ears. It felt so wonderful to wake up to love and pets! What more could a girl ask for? And I do enjoy my freedom to sleep wherever I please during the day even more now that I am sleeping in a crate each night.

I know that it is the only way for me to eat all of my special dinner without my suitemates stealing any, but it does get a bit lonely overnight. Plus, I have the embarrassment of leaking poop throughout the night, and I always apologize to the poor humans who have to clean up my mess in the morning. I wish I could stop it from happening, but sadly I have no control over it. All of my human friends here assure me every day that it is okay, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. They say that many of the cats here at Tabby’s Place have special needs like me, which is why they have a home here for as long as they need it. I know it would be a lot for someone to take on, having me and all of the mess that comes with me. So I am just grateful every day that I get to live here where I get the best care I could ever hope for.

And that is all because of you and your sponsorship! You are why I have daily baths to keep me clean and fresh, and why I have a super fantastic vet team monitoring and adjusting my medications to keep my sore bottom as painless as possible. My vet team told me that the pain medications I am taking to help me feel more comfortable are not resolving the underlying medical issue that I am dealing with, but I know that if there is anything else they can do to help me, they will do it. This is all thanks to your generosity!

In fact, when a small lump was noticed on the back of my neck recently, it was immediately removed and sent out for testing. My vet team doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about, but they are always making sure that my medical needs are taken care of, no matter what they are. Our plan going forward to prevent my messy mornings is for me to sleep in a larger floor crate to give me more room to move and groove overnight. I am going to try my best to keep my leaking to one side of the crate so it doesn’t get into my fur when I sleep. This will mean shorter baths each morning, and that is the best news I’ve heard in a while!

So I hope you all enjoy your costume parties and candy and however you celebrate Halloween. I will be thinking about you and sending you love from my cozy cubbie! Until next month, be kind to one another.

Love, Mary
