Update for Macaroon

Happy April, lovers of Macaroon!

Macaroon continues to enjoy the top perch of the new cat tree and seems to be settled in there and napping almost every time I visit! However, I did find her curled up adorably in the cubby on one visit (see photo). Most of the time, she trots out to greet me and wants petting and lap time whenever she can get it. Of course, I am happy to oblige!

This month Macaroon had a chance to be a kitty “hero” by donating blood through a local emergency hospital’s blood donation program. Tabby’s Place is participating in the program, whereby several cats would provide blood for the blood bank. This is no danger to the donors (who are, of course, sedated for the whole thing), and it can help save many lives. Only the healthiest cats are eligible to be donors, and Macaroon proudly made the cut.

Well, that is where the excitement ends, unfortunately. Sadly, Macaroon decided she didn’t really want to be that hero, after all. She traveled with Dudley and Goldeen to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital to donate her blood. But she was too feisty, and the technicians didn’t want to stress her. So, for our feisty Mac, it just turned into a little vacation: she got to stay overnight and returned the next day. As you can tell from the call for bloodletting, Mac continues to be in great health and enjoying life, and obviously wants that to be on her own terms!

The dynamics in Mac’s room seemed to have settled into a manageable calm, with Simba still jealous and drawing clear territorial boundaries. Sophia owns the chair by the door and Missy pops about with her normal energy. We are hoping for the sunshine and warm weather to bring in more visitors so that Mac’s crew will have lots of diversions watching folks through the big window as they park their cars and walk up to the sanctuary.

It was time for a bit of spring cleaning in the Tabby’s Place lobby. We needed to open up the flow a bit, lose some clutter, reorganize for better efficiencies, and turn out a brighter lobby! The resident lobby kitties, especially Olive (our paraplegic who “rules” the lobby) wholeheartedly approved of the new arrangements and settled right back in for their naps. They invite you to come and visit if you can.

Did you know that April is from the Latin verb ‘aperire,’ which means ‘to open?’ We know that in April the flowers open their blooms, rising from the dreams of their winter’s rest.

We thank you for opening your heart to Macaroon this month and every month to ensure she receives an abundance of love and care at Tabby’s Place.
Have a wonderful spring!
