Update for Macaroon

Dear Macaroon fans,

Happy Thanksgiving month! Autumn has truly set in now with temperatures dipping beyond chilly this month, and Macaroon observes that “It’s nice to be inside Danielle’s office staying warm, while watching the season change outside our big window.” All the girls in Mac’s space seem quite contented and snoozy as the attention of visitors and volunteers ramps up for the holiday season.

Lean (okay, “leaner”) and lovely, not-so-big Mac is having a fabulous fall. Macaroon is a model of slow and healthy weight loss, and her energy has rebounded to match. Mac is one of the most enthusiastic participants in our new feline enrichment program, playing with toys like a crazy kitten. When I visit with her, I’d better be bringing the da-bird toy with me (or some treats, which we try to limit for the girls), or else she looks a bit disappointed. Not that Mac isn’t always and forever up for affection, but playtime ranks right up there with treats, petting and brushing.

With her giant-sized energy and enthusiasm replacing her giant-sized body these days comes a bit of an amusing, possessive nature. A volunteer shared with me that when she visits, Macaroon often settles into her lap. When the other girl kitties want attention from that same volunteer, Mac will reign supreme from the lap with some growls and swats, claiming “I am Queen Mac and the attention from this volunteer is mine, ALL MINE!”

Did you know that Tabby’s Place is entering its 15th year of operation? Jonathan Rosenberg opened Tabby’s Place 14 years ago to honor Tabby, a kitty he and his wife Sharon loved dearly and lost to cancer. An amazing number of cats (almost 2500) have been welcomed through our doors—cats with all sorts of medical conditions and heart-breaking stories. For all of them, we provide a safe haven (and a forever home, if they are not adopted) full of love and as much medical care as they need. A small but dedicated staff and over 150 volunteers make Tabby’s Place cats a part of their day-to-day lives. We are so happy to continue this labor of love for Macaroon and all the other kitties who need us.

If you are in the area, please visit during our first-ever “Thanksgiving with the Cats” event and help feed the kitties an early Thanksgiving dinner. The festivities are on November 18th from 12-4pm. Expect to see decorations in the lobby and participate in refreshments and tours, as well as most importantly, a smorgasbord of kitty cuddles.

Though we thank you each month for all you do for Macaroon, please know that this month, in particular, we send mounds of gratitude your way for being so devoted to our funny and happy girl. We feel the wonderful effects of your thoughtfulness each and every day with Mac and at Tabby’s Place.
