Dear Team Luna,
My name is Tina and I am one very lucky volunteer: I get to visit Tabby’s Place once a week now to help the diligent, hardworking staff take care of the kitties during this Covid-19 pandemic. Let me tell you, this visit to Tabby’s Place is the highlight of my week—I’ve missed getting out and seeing our fur babies so much! This month, I am taking over for Sue and Denise to bring you Luna’s update.
First, let me venture a purely personal opinion: I think Luna was destined to find a home in the lab and medical suite. This feisty feline is one fine little laboratory technician—although she still needs to learn to treat delicate equipment with a little more care. Nonetheless, the necessary accommodations are being made for both her curiosity and her overt enthusiasm, and things seem to be purring along nicely.
Luna seems to be a scientist at heart. She is a keen observer of everything that goes on around her, watching over new patients in the suite with calm self-assurance and a steadying gaze. Nothing ruffles this little feline’s fur (or her feathers). She’s strictly “go with the flow” and eager to participate in any task at hand. Walk by the window to the medical suite and you’ll frequently find Luna in consult with her vet tech cohorts, Denise and Jess. She’s always on the case—sometimes, quite literally, making herself comfortable and very familiar with patient files. You might say she likes to “sit in” on virtually each and every procedure that crosses their lab tables.
For Luna, there has been an exciting new development in laboratory life—her newly installed window perch in the Surgery room. Luna loves this generous gift from you, her sponsors, and she is using it daily to widen her world and expand her field of observation. Let me tell you when I fill the bird feeders behind Tabby’s Place on Friday afternoons, I can count on Luna’s watchful eye to oversee me in my task. I’m certain she has developed a theory or hypothesis on how I could perform this chore much more efficiently. And she no doubt has an opinion about just who’s getting stroller walks to the garden, too. Luna doesn’t miss a beat: She sees everything and collects data like crazy. It’s really up to all of us to interpret it. Our findings? Suffice it to say, we’ll have to let you know next month!
Of course, no update about Luna would be complete without a report on the status of her health. Thankfully, her skin is looking pretty good these days—no facials required in this time of Covid-19. Denise and Jess are continuing to treat one of Luna’s ears for persistent problems but, all in all, right now Luna has a pretty clean bill of health. She is continuing with her standard regimen of medications begrudgingly, and has made another remarkable discovery: Her new window perch (the professional term is “observation station”) makes a convenient hiding spot when it’s time to take her pills. As Luna says, isn’t science wonderful?

Tina
