Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

The Ides of March are upon us, and you can really feel the enthusiasm here at Tabby’s Place as we all look forward to Spring 2022.

On the days when it’s still cold and blustery, all the cats huddle up and stay inside, but on those rare days when the thermometer hits fifty degrees or more?  Well, let me tell you, everyone hits the solariums, and Luna’s thoughts turn to one of her favorite pastimes: stroller rides!

We’ve had to warn the construction crew on the new wing that their days of working unsupervised are numbered!  Luna is ready to don a hard hat and see just what kind of progress these talented fellows have made to bring the project in on time and under budget.  By golly, we have so many more kittens and cats that desperately need our help, and Luna doesn’t want to wait even a minute to get started.

Luna has been in excellent health and spirits this month.  She did get into a bag of open and unattended cat food one day and was reported to have her whole head buried in the bag while “chowing down.”  We monitored her closely for an allergic flare-up but, so far, her illicit snack has not created a problem.

Her lab mate, Angelo, was started on behavior medication recently, and this has made a big difference in his inappropriate urination in the medical suite. Our senior vet tech now calls them “Prozac pals.” We’re also pretty certain that Luna gave Angelo a “good talking to” about his manners and his courting style, because he is interacting more appropriately with her.  While he doesn’t like being separated from her at night, she’s made it clear that a busy gal needs her beauty sleep—and, well, his peeing outside the door was no way to impress her!

Moving on to a more pleasant topic, we are happy to report that COVID restrictions have been loosened up at Tabby’s Place.  This is a relief for everyone and will, once again, allow for a wider range of visitors and social interactions for the cats, staff, visitors, and volunteers.  It couldn’t come a moment too soon as, frankly, there isn’t a feline in the bunch that hasn’t wondered when we’d be taking these awful masks off!  We’ve heard through the grapevine that a few of our furry friends were beginning to think that this was either the longest Halloween in history or that we’ve all gone quite bonkers.  Truth be told, the gang misses seeing our bright, smiling, and compassionate faces.  For them (and for all of us), it’s been far too long since they’ve seen a good Cheshire grin amongst us.

Once again, Luna has reminded me to express her gratitude for your thoughtful sponsorship and lavish support. In addition to your monthly donations on her behalf, she is pleased for us to report how many Tabby’s Place supporters reached out with gifts to honor the memory of that great animal champion, Betty White. While the entire animal world and its supporters will deeply miss her, our cats will never forget her compassion, kindness, and the huge impact she made on animal welfare throughout her amazing life. Luna is so pleased so many Tabby’s Place friends chose to honor Betty’s memory in such a gracious way.
