Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

Happy, happy holidays!  Hasn’t 2021 simply been a whirlwind?  While there have been days and even weeks that have seemed to move impossibly slow due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, the months have also flown by, filled with bustling activity. To be sure, there is never a dull moment at Tabby’s Place!  We are so fortunate to have a dedicated executive director and board, conscientious staff, and more-than-generous volunteers to keep pace with the never-ending needs of Tabby’s Place guests.  Providing top-notch care to more than one hundred friendly feline residents is a 24/7 mission of both learning and love.

Of course, we couldn’t be happier that we number Luna among our lodgers.  Without her leadership in the lab and her self-assured, intelligent opinions on all things feline, we mere mortal humans might make the kind of gaffes and blunders that are difficult to bounce back from!  As “spokes-cat” for all kitty kind, Luna sees to it that, delightfully, we always land on our feet. Believe us, we couldn’t even contemplate substantially increasing our size and number of residents with our expansion of a new wing without her.  For those of you who haven’t stopped in or driven by lately, construction continues to go splendidly for Quinn’s Corner. Our expansive new edifice is impressive and is elevating our profile in the world of cats and the people who love them in very positive ways.

Ahh … but I digress.  You really wanted to hear more about Luna, didn’t you?  Well, our lovely lady of the laboratory is absolutely fabulous!  Last month, the staff noted she was having looser stool, so her medications were adjusted accordingly.  The situation has not been resolved, but it has improved, and our happy little girl meanders around the medical and surgical areas closely observing every procedure and dispensing advice as necessary.  She and Angelo continue to cultivate their relationship and frequently nap near each other.  Angelo will never be an outstanding lab technician but, for now, Luna has accepted this and considers him to be a devoted and well-intentioned friend.

Luna is looking quite striking these days, as you can see from her holiday portraits.  She was also pleased to be featured again in this month’s Tabby’s Place newsletter, (see “Cats in Their Stockings”) as we reached out to attract new “Special Needs” sponsors. These days, her fur is full and her belly is round.  Our executive director, Jonathan Rosenberg, recently noted (in a very loving way) that she looked “chonky.”  This, dear friends, is a beautiful development since she was so very thin and miserably uncomfortable when she arrived at Tabby’s Place.  Like you, we continue to love and be loved by Luna (in her very own, special, somewhat domineering way). There is never a day we don’t learn something new from this wise, little feline—something that benefits all her fabulous, furry friends and we humans, too!

We wish you and yours a joyful, harmonious, and serene holiday season: cocoa or a good nog with a dash of nutmeg in your cup, a fire in the hearth for those of you who live in colder climes, and peace and prosperity all around.  After all, Luna wouldn’t have it any other way!

Your correspondent,
Tina
