Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

An important update for all Luna lovers: Tabby’s Place survived the ravages of Hurricane Ida completely intact.  As the storm developed, an emergency plan was put into action and the solariums were promptly evacuated.  Not a single cat or kitten was in danger at any moment.  Power at the facility was lost briefly and the new construction site was a sea of mud, but everyone is happy and healthy.

Onsite staff members were stranded overnight and Luna and the gang also hosted a number of travelers on Route 202, who used our parking lot as a safe haven from the storm.  In fact, since the highway was impassable, we turned the whole event into a slumber party!  A few guests stayed overnight in our lobby and our vet tech, Jess, bunked down with Luna and Angelo in the lab.  You can be sure Luna put her two cents in, asking all our feline friends to be on their best behavior with our guests.  Olive, of course, served as our greeter and concierge.  After all, she’s so good at it!  Our Development Director, Angela, wrote a blog about the whole adventure and called it Strays.

‘Yes, I am a scientist!’ says Luna

Lots of pictures, memes, and artwork for you this month!  We couldn’t help but include a few tidbits that simply epitomize the way Luna approaches life in the lab. As you can see, the special door to lock her out of the specimen testing equipment is finally installed. Now, Luna can come in and out of surgery and be in the medical suite unsupervised. As an added precaution, a very wise staffer penned a special message for Luna to keep her nose out of the new equipment cupboard.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed she’ll take this clever bit of direction in the spirit in which it was given but, with Luna’s unique temperament—well, you just never know!

Luna and Angelo–yes, together!

While she is enjoying her newfound freedom we still separate Luna from Angelo overnight, so each can eat their own special diet. During the day, once the food is taken away, she and Angelo can socialize—and we’re happy to report that they’re getting along so much better!  Did you ever think you’d see these two sharing a bed?  I mean, really!  It seems Luna’s attitude toward Angelo has softened considerably.  He is such a loving fellow, he simply wore her down. At last, Luna has found a place in her heart for him. Angelo, who has missed his beloved Mary so much, is very happy about this new entente.  We couldn’t be more thrilled that things between them are moving in such a positive direction!

Special message for Luna on the new cabinet door

To wrap things up, here is Luna’s monthly medical report:  Our ever-hungry feline friend tucked into a full bowl of restricted food this month, so we are closely monitoring her skin and ears.  We’ve noticed she’s more squirmy than usual when being medicated, and she seems to be uncomfortable on her left side. Once again, Luna has a yeast infection in both ears—severe on one side and mild on the other.  This means she is getting daily ear meds and, believe me, she is not pleased. A big part of our job with our littlest lab technician is encouraging her to participate in her own self-care.  Luna often has so much on her plate that she doesn’t make this one of her top priorities.  It’s up to all of us who love her to draw the line on her many projects and experiments, moving Luna up to the top of her very own “To Do” list. It’s certainly on the top of ours!

Thank you for making Luna a top priority in your busy world. Your ongoing support allows our girl to be her best self!

Tina
