Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

As we move through the dog days of summer, life at Tabby’s Place continues with construction on schedule and new litters of foster kittens galore. Some days, the bustle of activity seems like a whirlwind and, even without outside visitors and some staff working from home, it’s simply hard to believe how much there always is to do!

Despite the addition of a brand new washing machine to replace our old one (which was well beyond being on its last legs), the pile of laundry to be done continues to grow unabated. Thoughtful donations from our volunteers and members of our community must be logged and sorted and, of course, the hospital and lab staff are always hard at work taking care of all of our cats’ many medical needs.  Luna, as always, is at the center of the fray, monitoring each and every activity and making sure everyone and everything meets her exacting standards. Believe me,  nothing is slipping through the cracks on Luna’s watch!

Wonderful news! Luna has been in very good health overall this month.  Nonetheless, she continues to protest alterations to her diet. For a short time, little kitten Ramekin was crated in the surgery room to recover from a respiratory infection.  Luna watched him like a hawk and we were all particularly proud of her diligent nursing care of the little waif.  Needless to say, our excitement was short-lived. We quickly discovered Luna’s real interest in Ramekin was in catching any bits of his kibble that might fall her way!  The staff had to get creative with carefully positioning Ramekin’s food dish and putting an end to Luna’s scavenging.  She was not pleased.

Investigating the dental equipment!

Luna’s allergy-based food requirements are a constant source of frustration to her.  We tried to mix things up a bit for her by offering a Urinary/HP prescription diet that is currently being used in Suite C as an alternative to her standard fare.  After the novelty wore off, she decided she didn’t like this as well as her regular diet, so it’s back to what we all know works for her.  Yes, Luna likes to test us and keep us on our toes and, because we love her so, we try to be accommodating. Pleasing her palate without causing allergic reactions continues to be one of our greatest challenges.  It really may be one of Tabby’s Place’s longest ongoing scientific experiments.  Like Luna, we will continue to persevere.

Luna is well aware of just how much she is needed at Tabby’s Place, as well as how much she is truly loved.  Ever the consummate professional, Luna just can’t imagine a day without studiously attending to medical charts, chasing bubbles through the tubing of our lab equipment, and—well, how could Denise and the rest of the staff do without her?  With a new wing on the horizon and the responsibility for overseeing the care of even more cats, Luna neglecting responsibilities is simply out of the question.  As she says, we simply cannot have that kind of havoc and pandemonium…  someone feline has to be in charge!

Thank you once again for your ongoing support of our take-charge girl!
