It’s that time of year, when little kittens are not so little any more, and most of our babies have found their forever homes. Not that we are bereft of kittens, mind you. We all know, if there is even one kitten around, you cannot be bereft of kittens. They each have this magical way of filling your heart – even if it was already full of kitten love.
Several of our babies went home this month – Zeppelin is happy in his new home, and sibs Filiberto, Ignacio, and Alonso have all been adopted (leaving little sis Paquita so forlorn without her mama that she scored her very own blog post.) Just recently, Sinatra went home, and you can see for yourself below how handsome our three-legged orinch boy is. His adopters didn’t stand a chance against his charms.
Paquita is learning to adjust to being on her own, and it helps that she has a few other young ‘uns for company in the Community Room. Conrad can often be found perched high up, above the immediate attentions of visiting humans. He’s still a baby, really, only six months old or so, but he’s been too busy being scared to act very kittenish. He’s made a lot of progress, though, and often allows gentle people to give him a few scritches. He’s still a bit head shy, but is definitely coming around. Maybe Paquita or little beauty Milan can teach him a thing or two about being adorably silly.
I met Milan, a lovely dilute calico, for the first time last week; she’d been confined to ringworm isolation for the first several weeks of her stay at Tabby’s Place. Now, I will confess, I am a sucker for a spunky dilute calico (I thought it was cute when Flo would attack my fingers/face/feet), so I was prepared to fall in love with Milan quickly. Quickly doesn’t begin to describe it – it was more along the lines of “instantaneous”!
My first glimpse of her was as she grasshoppered her way across the floor, chasing after Paquita – so funny! Then, when she came over to say hello, she showed off her extraordinarily nimble tail – most happy cats wave their tail straight in the air, but Milan’s is so enthusiastically flexed that it goes all the way over, until it’s flat on her back. It is really a very silly look, but as one might expect from a cat with a high fashion name, Milan carries it off with aplomb. Milan is still more interested in playing than in snuggling with me, but I just know that will change.
We may not have as many kittens now as we did even a month ago, friends, but those who are still at Tabby’s Place have certainly filled our hearts all over again for the first time. They really are magnificent creatures. Thank you, dear sponsors, for loving our little ones, and giving them a home with us, until they find a forever home of their own.
