Update for Kitten Fund

Hello, kitten devotees,

We’re still in the throes of Kitten Season, so there is lots of kitten news to be had. For one thing, last month’s last-picked kitten, Katerina, has been put on hold to be adopted! Her cardiac ultrasound revealed a ventricular septal defect, a form of hole in the heart. This form of birth defect can range from harmless to fatal. We’re optimistic that Kat’s VSD is of the milder variety, but since she’s so tiny, she’ll need another ultrasound in 2-4 months. We’re grateful that her new family is willing to enter into the uncertainties with her.

In addition to the cavalcade of kittens arriving and getting adopted this summer, we’ve welcomed a number of wonderful feline moms. Jasmine, Demeter and Nadine are all so sweet that they’ve become Tabby’s Place residents themselves (in contrast to the majority of mother cats we trap, who go on to the “N” and “R” parts of TNR due to feral-ness). As of this writing, sweet Jasmine is happily raising babies Sencha and Matcha; Demeter is days away from giving birth; and lovely little Nadine has already been adopted into a home of her own.

We’ve also got scads of little ones, as you can tell from just a cursory glance at the first page of our adoptable cats lineup. The last several times I’ve stopped in to see the kittens, the visit has followed a pattern: I head into the kitten room, ready to be charmed by little furry babies. I am charmed by little furry babies. I get to know them a little bit (the cast is never the same), play, cuddle, fall in love, and give them kisses goodbye. Then I head into the community room, where news of all things Tabby’s Place (including adoptions) is posted, and I find out that those little loves I just fell head over heels for are already on hold!

Last week, that happened with Mr. Eko, a beautiful long-haired black-and-white boy who just happens to be missing the lower half of one of his back legs. Have no fear, that doesn’t seem to slow him down in the least! He climbed my leg, rolled on my lap, played with my toes, and seriously contemplated chasing me out the door when I left. Such a sweet boy, and as of this writing, he’s already at home with his new family.

I’ve learned to love our kittens as thoroughly as I can, right away, because they’re off to meet their futures without delay. You understand, don’t you? It’s why we are on Team Kitten. We give them every bit of love and care that we can, so that they can go to their happy forever homes. Thank you so very much for your support of our littlest kitties!
