Update for Kitten Fund

Hello, dear Kitten Fund friends!

It was almost spring for a few weeks there, which had us anticipating the beginnings of the annual deluge of baby cats, a.k.a. Kitten Season. But thanks to winter “storm” Stella, those warm days have been smothered by a blanket of snow and ice. As for the deluge of kittens? We’re nearly bereft of any babies at all!

As of now, Harrison (pictured here) is the lone kitten in the kitten room, where he has some decidedly non-kitten company in the form of one ageless adult, “Uncle” Sidewinder. Little Harrison is happy to share space with the gentle, blind Siamese adult. Honestly, the two largely ignore one another, but they sure spring to life as soon as a person enters to adore them.

Of more interest to Harrison (in a “Why is that cat hiding in his litterbox? He knows I can see him, right?” way) are Torus, Tagalog, and Tensor. Like Sidewinder, Harrison’s newest roommates are not kittens. Like Sidewinder, they need a little extra time and space to settle in to being Tabby’s Place cats (and get used to scary people!) What better place than the quiet of the not-really-kitten-room?

When I visited Harrison a few days ago, the three T’s were still crated for transition and in various states of scared kitty. Tagalog and Tensor were both using their litter boxes as camouflage, while Torus had managed to turn herself into a blanket burrito. I could see the roll breathing, so I knew she was in there. Hopefully, by the next time I’m in, Harrison and Sidewinder will have convinced them that people are good. Or at least that we are not horrible, scary monsters.

Harrison may not be the lone kitten in the room for long, either. A pair of brothers, David and Bowie, arrived from their loving foster home a matter of days ago and are currently in quarantine.

We’ll be up to our ears in kittens soon enough. Isn’t it nice, though, that for now, we can do our best to give Torus, Tagalog, and Tensor time to get comfortable as honorary kittens? Maybe they never got the kittenhood they should have had, and now’s their chance! Thank you, as always, for giving your love to all of our kittens, no matter how old.
