Update for Kitten Fund

Happy October, dear kitten friends!

We’re in a funny stretch of kitten season, when our population is all either teenagers or too tiny to move to the kitten room. “Older kittens” Fontina, Jessy, Parker (pictured at right) and Mack round out our teenage hangout right now, while tiny Tattoo, Zion, Shenandoah, Acadia and Denali are in foster care.

Also in foster care is miracle kitten Grace (pictured below); her name is no accident, as grace played a crucial role in her rescue. Thank goodness for kind-hearted people, and especially the kind-hearted souls who rescued little Grace – click here for the whole amazing story.

Meantime, back in ringworm isolation are hoarding-house survivors Roland, Talitha, Oy, Jake, Odetta, Topeka and Randall, together with their mama Irene. Finally, finishing their quarantine are Vier, Cuatro and Quatre. Adopted this month were Chevy, Susannah, Eddie and Four.

You’ve known me long enough to know that I dearly love the “tough nuts”, the kittens that take a little longer to learn how much we love them. So often, those kittens are the teenagers left behind at the end of kitten season, just so they can get the extra time they need (and aren’t we glad to give it?). So it is with this year’s holdouts – it’s so rewarding to go into the kitten room and sit quietly, waiting for even the shyest little one to warm up.

Well, last week, I stopped by for a dose of kitten time…but I found that someone else had beaten me to it, and how! I peered through the window of the kitten room, ready to step in for a visit, but saw a young man, stretched full length on the floor, kittens tiptoeing around. “I’ll wait,” I thought, and went to see some other cats in the meantime. When I stopped back a while later, he was in the same place, clearly asleep! I wasn’t about to interrupt – what a great chance for our kittens to get to know people in a new way, and to be able to check out a person with no fear. I will confess, though, that I was a bit envious. A nap with kittens to cuddle? Bliss!

I hope you are finding your own kitty bliss these days, but if you need an extra special dose, our kittens will be happy to help you with some extra snuggle-love!
