I’m filling in this month as your regular correspondent is out and about. Taking a break from kittens seems like blasphemy until you realize just how many kittens have been arriving, then multiply that by just how much diarrhea they’ve had. If you can’t figure out the answer, I have it: many kittens times so much diarrhea equals… WORK. So, so, so much work!
Fear not: the army of staffers and volunteers swoop in every single day. The linens are fresh, the water bowls washed, the litter pans incinerated emptied. Thanks to very simple medications, diarrhea in kittens – which can be terribly common – can be easily eradicated. Once they get a little older*, the messiness scales back immensely and the fun ramps up to epic levels!
*By older, I mean no longer stepping/laying/falling into their wet food bowls. Have you ever soaked and washed the crusted dried wet food out of a kitten’s tiny toes?
Now, if I’m counting my kittens correctly, we have Ramona, Duke, Ziggy, Hayden, Kenny, Jason, and Luke in the kitten room right now. They will soon be joined by more, as there are another bushel of kittens in foster homes!
Speaking of which, I’m lucky to have two of those fosters in my own home: Amethyst and Ametrine. Amethyst is the smaller of the two, a tuxedo girl with a cute white stripe on her nose. Ametrine is a tabby and absolutely loves human attention. They’ll be back at Tabby’s Place in time for the Kitten Shower on the 18th.
Both Amethyst and Ametrine are gigantic bundles of fun. They love to play with any kitty toy (and any non-kitty toy) and both have excellent appetites. Once the diarrhea had been treated, I was able to boast that my two fosters had “perfect” poops! It’s actually a pretty big deal and I’m actually gloating.
There’s more – more kittens that will be soon ready to rock ‘n roll. You’ll hear all about them soon. Please stop in on the 18th and meet our precious little ones; thanks to your sponsorship, they’re your precious little ones, too! They thank you with every pounce and little kitten mew. We thank you, too, for helping us do what we love to do.
