And so it begins. Along with warm days and daffodil heads, Kitten Season is once again on the upswing. As of this writing, we’re gently working with feral-born nervous nellies Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Moe and Tiger; being a kitten can be scary enough, but these poor little kitties have already needed some expert socializing.
We’ve also got a litter of “Critters”: Ferret, Gopher, Chinchilla and Badger (not to be confused with kittens of yore, Chipmunk, Squirrel, and Mouse. Yes, we had a cat named Mouse. No, he didn’t have a complex about it!)
Badger, pictured below, has had somewhat of a yo-yo month; on my first visit in early March, he was being picked up to head home with his adopter. The next time I stopped by, Badger was again being picked up to head home with his adopters. No word on what exactly brought Badger back for re-adoption, but last I heard, adoption #2 is sticking.
Of our older kittens, Sandy and Cassandra have been adopted (together), while Kaycee and Pasha continue on in the Community Room. Little Kaycee (pictured above) seems destined to remain “little” Kaycee; she really is a tiny cat. She’s coming along though, and learning to trust us more every day. After several cautious visits with me, she positively smiled at me the last time I stopped in to see her. It was a long-distance smile from across the room, but I’ll take a smile from a timid cat, no matter how far.
I’m sure as the weather warms, we will once again be inundated with scads of fuzzy little cats. For now, it’s nice to have plenty to coo over, without being totally overwhelmed by the cuteness (and the care they need!).
Are you ready for another Kitten Season, dear sponsors? I sure hope so, because it’s already begun. We’re so grateful that you’re up for the adventure with us!
