Update for Kitten Fund

Dearest friends of kittens,

We’re considering abolishing use of the term “kitten season,” as said “season” now seems to stretch from January through December. Even so, we’re not complaining — Tabby’s Place remains gleefully full of, and smitten with, kittens.

Our current roster includes litle Okra, scarcely two months old yet already spoken for; timid tabbies Taz and Banana (now living in our Special Needs suite with gentle adults Uma and Sequoia); Creamsicle and George (in the Community Room); Special Needs darling Tanzy; and, even so late in the “season”, itty-bitty tabbies Timberland, Reebok, Nike and Converse (pictured below).

We continue to work to socialize shy sweeties like Taz and Banana, who need patience and time to go along with copious volumes of love. Even as they make slow progress, we’re encouraged by adopters who have been willing to give their hearts to nervous teenagers like Johnny Ringo, Tutti, Diego, Salsa and Emilio.

I am easily drawn into the orbit of timid kitties like Banana, but this month, I had an encounter with a heart-stealing extroverted interloper – little Okra (pictured at right). This little girl already has a fabulous forever home lined up (complete with former Tabby’s Place kittens for siblings!), but that’s not stopping her from claiming the devotion of everyone she meets. One afternoon, after a foray to the lobby, where she scandalized Casper with her cuteness, Okra made her way to the Community Room. There, she gobbled up all the wet food in sight, climbed up my leg, and settled in the crook of my arm for an extended nap. Nevermind that I had other things to do and other cats to visit. Okra had made her case that I was meant to make her happy…and I found it hard to disagree. Kittens can be very persuasive!

As the dark and cold of winter settle in and the holiday season approaches, I can’t help but reflect on all the good things in life. The health and happiness of all of our cats, and the love they give to us are foremost in my thoughts. And I am so very thankful that you have been so generous in your support of the kittens at Tabby’s Place in this year of the never-ending kitten season. Thank you from all of us, human and feline, and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
