Update for Kitten Fund

Dearest Kitten Fund friends,

The little ones continue to tumble into Tabby’s Place in the depths of winter. Happily, they just as swiftly sail out to forever homes. The past month witnessed several special adoptions, including blind Cricket (pictured below) and his brother Weevil (together); frail-but-recovering Vanilla and his brother Chocolate (separately); and long-waiting Yuri.

Among our remaining kittens, shy Sandy and tortoiseshell Tortini continue to recover from their special issues. Tortini’s fracture is callusing over nicely; radiographs showed that she’s healing beautifully, such that no further treatment is needed. This little girl is absolutely beautiful; now she’s healthy to match. All she’s waiting for is her special forever home!

In other good news, we’re now convinced that Sandy (pictured at right) does not have chronic thyroid issues, a fact that bodes well for his health and his adoption odds. The little guy did develop a rather nasty eye infection this month, for which we continue to treat him — and to “torture” him by making him wear an e-collar. (If there is something cuter than a long-haired orange kitten in an e-collar, I have yet to see it.)

Poor little Sandy isn’t yet 100% convinced of the ultimately stellar benefits of feline-human friendships, so having to wear the collar and submit to regular eye checkups is not exactly his idea of a good time. He was bravely tolerating some veterinary attention (which involved finding him and hauling him out from a perfectly good and secluded napping spot waaaaay under a desk) the last time I saw him. To be fair, his eye was, well, gross. Maybe he recognized that, too, because he was cooperating with his spot exam. Poor little guy – still a kid and already so much he’s had to deal with!

Dear sponsors, we know from experience that this “lull” in Kitten Season is only a lull at best (really, they never do stop coming in, do they?) Isn’t it fun, though, to think ahead a few short months to the new little kittens we’ll get to meet this year? And to dream of so many young lives we can save together, so many forever homes to be found? Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our youngest residents – we’ll see together what this new year has in store for us!
