Update for Jackie

Happy July, Dear Sponsors!!

Jackie and I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July celebration if you are in the USA! Our super senior continues to amaze us all. Jackie is doing marvelously on her chemotherapy, maintaining a solid weight and, in the words of Senior Veterinary Technician Denise, “still kicking our butts.”

Jackie had her chemo treatment this week and did wonderfully. Her kidney values have come up a little, which is not unexpected at her age. We are keeping a close eye on this. She has one more chemo treatment to go! I cannot help but be amazed by this little powerhouse!

Jackie has a new roommate this month: Shifty. Poor Shifty came to us last year through our TNR program. TNR stands for Trap Neuter Return. In Shifty’s case, the “R” was not possible due to a badly infected mouth. Much to his dismay, he needed to stay with us for a while. We hoped we could heal him and then return him. He hoped he could stay as far away from us as possible! We ended up having to pull most of Shifty’s teeth.

You would think he would hate us even more after this, however the strangest thing happened. Once he started feeling better, Shifty decided that humans really weren’t all that bad! He has not only become one of the sweetest cats, but he is now also diabetic, which is why he has moved into the lounge. We can better control his diet when he is with other diabetic cats. Jackie, of course, does not even seem to notice her new roommate. As long as he steers clear of her chaise lounge he’s alright with her!

Speaking of her chaise lounge, I was chatting with another volunteer during a Jackie visit. We were looking at pictures of Jackie through the years (which this other awesome volunteer provided). The one common denominator, whether she was in Suite B, the Lobby, Community Room, Danielle’s Office, or now the Staff/Volunteer lounge, is that adorable chaise lounge! It has accompanied Jackie on all her Suite changes over the years and she certainly wouldn’t have it any other way!

Wishing you a wonderful remainder of July. I’ll be back in August with more updates on Jackie.
