Update for Faye

Happy September, Friends of Faye!

Novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” And while admittedly, fall has not yet “officially” arrived for another week, all the usual signs of its arrival are right on time: crisp mornings, earlier sunsets, a noticeable absence of fireflies in the evenings, and the mingling smells of pumpkin spice and freshly sharpened pencils.

And, if you are a true New Jersey-an, “locals summer” has made its triumphant—and eagerly anticipated—return. I, for one, have been counting the days until I can feel the boardwalk under my sneakers and smell the ocean air (through a mask, of course!). However, Faye, true-to-form, sees the fall as the inevitable end of summer, and for that, she is grumpy.

Faye and Cotton on dual stroller rides

We all know that even though Faye looks like a less-than-rugged type, she adores the outdoors—the hotter, the better. She loves nothing more than discovering the warmest sunbeam in the solarium and snuggling (on a blanket, no less) into a sleepy summertime slumber. These fall weeks are a nuisance for Faye, who would prefer her fur to remain warm-to-the-touch, not adorably windswept by a chilly fall breeze. She would prefer bumblebees to blackbirds, sunflowers to mums, and squirrels to chipmunks. And so, if she can eke out a few more sunshine-y stroller rides and balmy beauty naps in the solarium, that’s where you will find her. And she won’t be alone . . .

For a cat who likes to play aloof, Faye has been spotted stroller-to-stroller with another floofy, Disney-animation-worthy cutie on more than one occasion. As another, perhaps less prestigious writer once said, “Summer days, drifting away to oh, oh those summer nights.” Tell me more, tell me more . . .

Beyond her summer fling and a brief upset when Faye and her friends were briefly ousted from the outside while the roof on their solarium underwent some repairs, Faye has had a good month. As you can see from her photos, her annual summer lion’s cut is growing back into a slightly wispier version of her abundant winter fluff. We’re wondering if this may be a side effect of the chemotherapy drug she is taking for her lymphoma, but we love her easy, breezy, early-fall look.

Faye and I wish you a smooth and safe summer-to-fall,  back-to-school transition. We hope you enjoy this month’s photos as well! Faye was more than willing to participate in many photoshoots with volunteers this past month and remains a favorite on our social media pages (check us out on Facebook and Instagram).

And, as always, Faye sends you a heart full of love. Thank you for choosing Faye as one of your very best friends and for supporting her and accompanying her along her journey. We love you, friends, and we’ll talk again soon . . .
