Update for Faye

Happy almost-Spring, Faye family!

Angela here, Tabby’s Place’s Development Director, pinch hitting for your regular correspondent. Beth will be back next month, but in the meantime I’m happy to write for a beauty with whom I’m besotted: our Faye.

I’m afraid our glamour girl isn’t feeling entirely beautiful this month. Well, it’s not that her body image has taken a hit (far be it from Faye to suffer any self-doubt)…but her image of us hapless human beings certainly has, and it has everything to do with what we’ve done to Faye’s formidable image.

Let me explain.

Faye excels at many things. Grooming is not one of them. I hasten to add that this is not due to any laziness or failing on Faye’s part — heaven forbid — but rather to her queenly manner. Do we expect Queen Elizabeth to paint her own nails? Do we imagine Queen Margrethe darns her own socks?

By no means. And so, neither will Princess Empress Duchess Queen Faye fumble with her own fur. Faye has “people” to do that.

Those people are us.

But here’s where things get tricky. Although Faye has a doting team of stylists, groomers, valets and vassals of all varieties, she’s not entirely enamored of letting us do our job. Begin to brush Faye, and you’ll quickly find the ferocity of a conquering queen. Abandon all hope, ye who comb here.

And so Lady Lovelylocks‘ feline successor forms maddening mats in her fur, uncomfortable and entirely unbefitting her station. What to do?

We do what we have to do. We sedate Faye…so we can shave her down.

Freed from fur-clogged discomfort, looking cuter than a baby chick in a hat, Faye sulks. It’s not that she thinks she looks bad (she knows she looks exquisite); it’s not that she’s alone in this (we had a full-scale groom-a-rama); it’s not that the procedure hurt (she was asleep anyway).

It’s just that there’s a certain hint of ridiculousness about Faye’s new ‘do. And Faye is not ridiculous.

OK, maybe a little ridiculous.

Dear sponsors, thank you for helping us to do all the little and large things our larger-than-life love needs to thrive. May this month find you blessed and blissful, enjoying a taste of the ridiculous wherever you may find it. Faye loves you!
