Update for Chipper

As you can see from the photo, Chipper has settled in to his new suite just fine.
We are happy that he hasn’t shown any of the aggressive behavior he had shown in his previous suite.

During the last month, we have noticed that Chipper had a chronic eye inflammation.
We treated it initially with an opthalmic antibiotic.
This seemed to do the trick, but the problem recurred a week later.

Our vets now suspect that he has a herpes infection, which is farily common in cats.
Herpes eye infections are permanent and there is no known cure.
Fortunately, while annoying, the condition is not serious.

Some people have reported that the administration of the amino acid l-lysine can help to curtail the spread of the herpes virus.
So, we started Chipper on daily doses of l-lysine.
We initially administred this as a powder crushed in some wet food.
Chipper happily ate the food, but the truth is that he does not need to be encouraged to eat more food.

So, we have switched him to a new product, which is a palatable gel containing the anmino acid.
We are happy to report that Chipper loves the gel and all one needs to do is smear a dab on his paw and he happily laps it up.

We have also had quite a few inquiries from people interested in adopting Chipper,.
So far, none of them have come to fruition for various reasons.
But we are hopeful that this big mush will be adopted at some point.
