Update for Bailey

Bailey continues to flourish in the FIV+ suite at Tabby’s Place. Recently he had his annual ultrasound to check on his kidneys. According to the vet tech at the sanctuary, a recheck of his chronic interstitial nephritis (which can cause early kidney failure) showed no change. Way to go, Bailey!!

Handsome Bailey seems calm and happy these days. He loves to play with any string toy. He’s friendlier and more relaxed with people each time I visit with him. Tabby’s Place usually has that effect on its resident cats. There are so many staff and volunteers who are in and out of the suites each day that the cats become very comfortable with people. They learn how to solicit attention and crave petting. Since this makes them more adoptable, it’s a great benefit for the cats.

For months Bailey and his rival, Nuttin, have been competing for the top cat position in the suite. However, Iggy, the newcomer to the FIV+ suite, appears to be unseating both of them. Iggy put Bailey and Nuttin in their places on my last visit to the suite. Iggy prevented both of them from approaching me until he had received all the attention he wanted. When Iggy had had enough of me, he walked away and Bailey was allowed to be petted. Stay tuned. Only time will tell how this will settle out. But it’s interesting to watch the cats work it out as long as they don’t get violent.

Thank you from all of us at Tabby’s place for your support of Bailey and of this wonderful sanctuary for cats in hopeless situations.
