Update for Bacon

Dear Friend,

I hope your month has been as good as mine! I’ve been quite happy and healthy. There’s nothing to report about my health, and that’s always good news around here.

My scribe Lynn continues to visit me and bring me toys and treats. She did have one bad habit, but I think I’ve made her change her ways. She had the audacity to place my treats on the floor! I don’t like eating off the floor. When she placed my treats in front of me on the floor, I looked at them and walked away! She then put them on the blanket in my crate, probably thinking that I’d eat them later. Well, I surprised her; I immediately went into my crate and enjoyed my snack. After I finished my snack and went back out, Lynn gave me lots of head scratches; they felt good. She also offered me some toys, but none of the interested me. She finally brought out my little red wand, and we played with that.

On her next visit, Lynn seemed very happy about something. She said, “Bacon, look what I have for you. It looks just like you!” She’d brought me a little gray, wobbly mouse, but it did NOT look like me. The mouse’s “fur” was a dull gray. Has she ever really looked at me? My fur is a stunning silver; it’s not a drab gunmetal gray. I think she needs new glasses.

She had, however, brought me a new treat I liked: lickable tuna. It was yummy! She even fed me properly, letting me lick it off her finger. Did I mention that she only gave me the tuna? Eat your heart out, Sally!

Did you remember that September 1st was International Bacon Day? I know it’s honoring bacon (lowercase b) and not me, but the thought of it made me feel special. I honestly didn’t think anyone would remember the day or do anything special, but I should have known Lynn wouldn’t forget “my” day. She and another very nice volunteer came to visit me. Each of them was carrying a blue bowl that was filled with bite-sized pieces of crisp BACON! Sally received a few pieces, but Lynn put her bowl into my crate and let me help myself! Lynn told me that, in my honor, they were going to offer bacon to all the cats that were allowed to have some. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

I guess I am really special, because I’m sort of a celebrity at Tabby’s Place. Whenever visitors are given a tour of the sanctuary, they always stop at Karina’s office and are told my story. They must be impressed by all that the staff has done for me. How many places would lovingly accept a cat with seizures and a sleep disorder? Not only did Tabby’s Place give me a home, they gave me the best medical care. They worked exceedingly hard to find out what was wrong with me and how to solve my problems. The fact that there was nothing to report about my health this month is a testament to their amazing work and dedication.

To be honest, I’m really not the only cat that is special; each and every cat here is special. Every cat at Tabby’s Place receives that same quality of care. If our excellent medical staff isn’t able to handle a cat’s problems, the cat is taken to a specialist. In some cases, cats are taken to emergency hospitals for treatment.

Because Tabby’s Place accepts so many older cats and cats with Special Needs, many of our residents require special care. All of this costs a lot of money. One of the ways Tabby’s Place raises money for this care is through the Linda Fund. The fund helps provide for the care of the Special Needs cats. Corporate sponsors and Benefactors will match donations made through September 30th. To learn more about the Linda Fund, click here.

Thank you, dear Sponsor, for caring about me and supporting me. I hope you enjoy the cooler weather that September and autumn bring. If you’re ever in the neighborhood and have never been to Tabby’s Place, stop by and visit us. I know someone would be honored to give you a tour, and I would love to meet you. If you’ve already visited us, stop by again and meet our new residents.

Love and purrs,
Bacon
