Update for Babs

Update for Babs

Dearest Sponsors,

Last month’s update was full of promising medical news for Babs. This month is a little more concerning. She has lost some weight. Her physical exams are showing everything to be normal, but the medical team feels that her weight loss is a troubling sign.

The team has wrestled with how much to put Babs through in terms of diagnostics. A major workup, involving anesthesia, endoscopy, MRI etc., seems as though it would be cruel: anything they might find would likely not be treatable, and the trauma of the diagnostics would be very hard on our fragile girl. For now, they have decided to continue to monitor Babs closely and to love her dearly. Knowing that Babs does not like to be handled in any way, I’m happy that they have come to this conclusion.

During my visits with Babs this past month, she was in her crate much of the time.

However, on my last visit she was at the conference table when I arrived. I was delighted to see this. On that day, she spent a good amount of time helping me with my administrative work and napping on the table.

Our Director of Development has some happy news to share with you. This month she had the pleasure of speaking with a friend of Tabby’s Place who works with the shelter from which Babs first came, 8+ years ago. He was moved to hear that his old friend “Barbara Ann” (he always calls her by her formal name) is living in the epicenter of human attention in the Community Room, and that she has mellowed with age.

And so, dear sponsors, until next month, we wish you all the best and thank you for being so wonderfully generous to our Babs.
