Update for Babs

Dearest sponsors:

I’m happy to report that Babs has had a very good month healthwise. Although this past month started with a “very bad feeling,” it ended with good news. Earlier in the month, our vet tech felt a worrisome thickness in Babs’ colon. Fearing intestinal cancer, our vet team scheduled radiographs and an abdominal ultrasound for her. Despite their ominous feeling, Babs’ tests showed nothing notable. Other than small “old lady” kidneys, Babs appears to be remarkably healthy. Her heart looks great! She’s also gained a small amount of weight, which leaves her, in the words of our vet, “Looking good…for Babs.”

Babs appears to be enjoying the warmer days of the season. But, just as the Spring weather changes by the day, Babs’ personality seems to as well.

Some days, she’s busy in the conference area. She divides her time among her favorite activities. They include jumping in and out of a cat tree, selecting just the right chair to relax on, and supervising the administrative volunteers. One day, while another volunteer and I were working on a mailing, Babs positioned herself in the middle of all of the materials and watched us work. When she became tired of that, she curled up on the table for a much needed nap.

On one particularly cold and rainy day this month, Babs responded to the sleepy weather. She moved into a large crate, where she spent most of the day curled up in a cat bed. When she woke up to have her lunch, I was able to spend time with her and take a photo.

Although Babs wasn’t in the mood to socialize that day, she still gave a couple of the volunteers an amusing surprise. The crate that Babs chose is also used as a hiding place by Sneaky -– an extremely shy kitty new to the community room. Sneaky is so shy that few of us have ever seen her. Since both cats have gray coats, the volunteers mistook Babs for Sneaky. They were thrilled to have finally spotted the elusive kitty. As they fawned over her, Babs graciously pretended that she was Sneaky.

It’s so heartwarming for me to share Babs’ stories with you, dear sponsors. Thank you for caring so much for her. Babs and I hope you have a great month.
