Update for Olive

A Sunny and Summery Hello to you, my Sweet Sponsor and Special Friend!

Your finger smells like kibble. YUM!!!

The summer days just fly by here at Tabby’s Place, and it feels like there is an endless supply of hot weather here in New Jersey.  Our summer months also seem to have this wicked humidity that makes my fur have a mind of its own.  But, I have been enjoying the sunshine and relaxing, and I hope you have taken some time to do the same!

There is so much to share. We’ll start with the medical report.

Overall, I’ve had a great month, though there is a little good news and a little bad news.  I had another sore on my back leg that required a bandage. The good news is that I am healed up and bandage-free again.

The bad news is that the too-smart-for-their-own-good staff figured out how I was getting these injuries.  It seems to happen when I scoot into the kitty crates in the Lobby.  Sometimes I catch my back leg on the entrance to the crate, irritate my skin, and cause a little abrasion.

The worse news is that I am now banned from the Lobby crates because of this. Ugh! The only reason I was going in there was to steal the dry kibble that they feed my neighbors, which I am not supposed to have because they have me on a silly “diet.”

While this may mean no further injuries, this also means I cannot enjoy that delicious kibble.  Well, whatever…  I am scheming another way to get the kibble I deserve!

Everyone needs to know it’s my birthday (and provide TREATS!)

Tabby’s Place has had some highs and lows lately.  My beloved staff have been wearing their sad faces too much these past few weeks. While they do try their best to hide it, I am a smart and intuitive girl and can see right through their façade.

Sometimes things happen that make their hearts grow heavy and their eyes leak.  They have such big hearts that love unconditionally, and we all know when they’ve had to say a difficult goodbye. This month, we lost dear friends Dewie and Abacus. When these lows hit, I know it is up to me to do my best to be my happy self and cheer them up.

One sure way to put real smiles on their faces:  a PARTY!  Do you wanna guess what we celebrated a few short weeks ago?   I will give you a hint: something black and white and stunningly gorgeous.

If you guessed ME, you are right!!!   The party was for my birthday, and oh what a party it was!  All day long!  I had a sign set up in the Lobby, pointing out to everyone that it was my birthday, and of course, extra attention was required.  There were lots of head scritches, singing, and of course, special birthday treats.  It really was a wonderful day celebrating ME!

Everyone asked how old I am, which of course I refused to answer.  Does a true lady ever reveal her real age?  Elizabeth says not, and trust me, she sure does not tell hers (I have only asked her a few dozen times now).

Happy Birthday to Me, Queen Olive! I love my tiara!

However, my dear sponsor, you are always here for me, supporting me through thick and thin, so I will share my secret with you….  I just turned 11 years old!  Whoo hoo for me!

I know I remain youthfully beautiful, and I certainly do not show my age. I fly around the Lobby and play the same as I did when I arrived at Tabby’s Place oh so many years ago.

I must also tell you, this year I received The Best Birthday Present. EVER!  Finally, at long last, I received a gift truly befitting me, the Queen of the Lobby.  My gift, you ask?   A sparkly and exquisite TIARA!  And I look utterly gorgeous wearing it, even if I do say so myself!

Now, a little post-birthday situation with the tiara arose, by which I am quite bothered. A certain person around here, who shall remain nameless, has taken my tiara away from me and put it in their office, saying that if left for me to wear every day, there would be no living with me.  Ummm, seriously?  I don’t think I want to know what is meant by that.

Hey, that is MY TIARA. Don’t take away my tiara!!

All queens should be able to wear their tiara whenever they want, don’t you think?   I have stayed up late pondering this for many nights now, and figured out a solution.  Fingers crossed, my middle-of-the-night online order is not cancelled like the 4th of July sparkler fiasco last month.  I am always thinking, though, and if my order does not arrive, if I offer Elizabeth enough kisses, she will probably just order me another one!

As I think about wrapping up summer, there is much excitement ahead as we embark into the fall season, the first of which kicks off later this month:  The Linda Fund Matching Challenge.  Donations will help create a life-saving reserve of funds for the medical needs of the most desperate felines in their most desperate hours.  More details will follow on this, as well as some other exciting things, so please stay tuned!

Before I sign off and return to my official Lobby Greeting Duties, I want to thank you for your unwavering kindness and support.  It is because of you, your love and generosity, that I live my best life and reign as the Queen here at Tabby’s Place, celebrating my birthday and all that is wonderful in life.  I wish you all the same happiness that I have.  I continue to hold you close in my heart each and every day.

All my love,
The Queen Olive
