Update for Olive

Update for Olive

I NEED some sunshine!

A joyful and jubilant June hello to you, my jewel of a friend and sponsor!

Oh, what a month it has been since we last chatted!  I cannot wait to fill you in!!!

First off, I must share my dismay at the dismal weather.  Here in Ringoes, New Jersey, we had so many of those horrible wet raindrops falling from the sky.  Now bear in mind, I am a fabulous feline and I do detest getting wet, but when the rain totals more than the length of my tail, it is definitely real and we have a serious problem!  I am keeping my pretty little paws crossed that June is going to be better, which will also mean more stroller walks and enrichment time for me!  I seriously can not wait to don my little yellow polka dot bikini and lie in the grass to catch some sunshine!

The beginning of last month found my digestive tract in a little turmoil.  Fortunately, not the kind that required an enema (perish that thought!), but rather more of the kind that leads to a bit of a mess on the floor.  Since I am not the one cleaning it up, and it eases my expression experience, I really am A-OK with a little diarrhea from time to time.  My staff may not agree, but hey, better than the alternative of me screaming murder while they express me. (But if I am honest, I am going to scream murder at them no matter what!)

It’s a beautiful day to celebrate ME!!!!

Now that the dreary weather update and health news are out of the way, let’s get down to the fun stuff!!  So, I know I hinted in my last update about a super duper important and special date that was coming up.  And so very important it was!

You see, every year on June 1st is NATIONAL OLIVE DAY!

Did you know that an Olive is a symbol of peace, hope, love, and friendship?  I must agree, I am a stunning symbol of all those things (maybe a little sassy and feisty too!!!).  I have been waiting a very long time (like a whole YEAR!) to again celebrate this day, which is set aside and named just for me, the most gorgeous OLIVE ever!  I made sure that everyone entering and leaving the lobby knew that it was OLIVE Day, in honor of me, and ONLY ME!!!

I was petted, loved on, complimented, and adored, as I really should be every single day of the year.  I know you were celebrating me in spirit, and I thank you for your love and devotion to me, sweet little Olive! Jonathan laughed when I reminded him it was a special day named totally in my honor and said, “Oh, Olive, if you only knew what National Olive Day is really about.”  Not sure I understand his implication there—what else would it be about other than ME?  Alas, the day went so very quickly, and everyone insisted that the lobby return to normal the very next day.  And so, I will impatiently wait another 365 days to again be celebrated as I truly deserve!

Sometimes, the Hips and Olive story is dreamy when we sleep together

Life in the Lobby is never dull, that is for sure!  Someone around here always seems to be up to something, and it is not always good!   There is a cute little guy named Berry who has a magical way of always making everyone laugh.  He used to be really little and so cute; not sure what happened to the dude, but he is not so little anymore!  I guess he is still cute.

The biggest problem with Berry is that he likes toys just a little too much.  Maybe not a little, but more accurately—a LOT!   Not that there is a shortage of toys, but it never fails, he always seems to end up wanting MY toy.  And when that happens, well, chaos ensues.  Why is it, in the end, I always end up hearing, “Olive, be nice to Berry and share the toys!”?   It is always Olive that is reprimanded, never Berry.  Something must be done about that!

Four Cats, One Toy.  That is MY TOY!

And then there is Hips, another of our Lobby residents.  Hips can really be a pain in my bottom!  For some reason, Hips likes to pile lots of extra attention on me.  I get that I am beautiful and deserve attention, but not the kind that Hips dishes out.  This does tend to increase my anxiety, and ultimately brings me to picking at my chest fur, but with enough attention from my staff, volunteers, and visitors, I am usually able to forget about Hips and his nonsense!

Do you suppose he gives me so much extra attention because he is a little sweet on me??? Sometimes we are simpatico, as shown in our photo sleeping together.  Hmmm, do you think maybe we need to think about what his real motive is??

So, wrapping up this month’s news report, I really would like to take a moment to wish you a warm and wonderful month ahead.  Your kindness and never-ending devotion to me truly mean everything, and I am ever so grateful to have you in my life.  I do love our monthly chats and look forward to telling you about everything going on here at the sanctuary.  I appreciate you taking the time to listen to me share my feisty, fun, and frivolous life.

So until our next update…..

All my love,
Queen Olive (With help from my dedicated correspondent and companion, Elizabeth)
