Once upon a time, introducing new cats into Max’s suite was a challenge. While Max loves his human friends, he has not always been as welcoming to new feline companions.
But what a difference a few years make. When it comes to choosing the right room for a timid Tabby’s Place resident, Max’s suite has gone from being our last choice to a top pick.
The main problem in the past was Max’s unpredictability. Years ago, Max was crated at night for the safety and protection of the other cats in his suite. We never quite knew how he would react. There were times he did just fine; other times, he made it all too clear that he was not pleased by a new neighbor.
Max’s past behavior brought to mind the old “bad guy” characters from classic movies. The bad guy reacts negatively, until enough positive influences turn this behavior around. The “right woman” and the kindness of others inevitably turn our beloved bad fellows into the “good guys” we always believed they could be. Never losing faith in them is so important.
Although he hasn’t quite reached Hollywood stardom, Max’s reputation at Tabby’s Place has always been larger than life. Today, we are all very proud of him for turning his behavior around. He greeted new neighbor Paco with little more than a sober stare, and then it was back to business as usual.
As in movie classics, Max has a good influence in the “right woman:” his friend Sammy. She has helped to mellow our fellow. Between Sammy’s love, human camaraderie, feline friendship and outstanding care, Max has grown into a cat who can be both confident and kind.
