Update for Max

Hello, friends of Max!

Spring is upon us, and the warm weather finds many of our cats venturing into the solaria to feel the sunshine and hear the birds chirp. It is warm and peaceful, and the companionship of other felines makes this a nice way to spend a springtime afternoon.

Unless you are Max.

Max’s longtime home of Adoption Room #1 is not attached to a solarium, so he’s never had access to the outdoors at Tabby’s Place. But, from his window seat, Max has a view of our busy lobby, front door and yard that can’t be beat. Max has always been a people-watcher, preferring human company to bird-watching, anyway. He would rather listen to human conversation, and that is exactly how I found him on my last visit.

Holding court with three volunteers who know him well, Max was in his glory. His demeanor was confident, as his big green eyes followed the conversation. He somehow knew it was all about him. We spoke of his long tenure at Tabby’s Place, and of how many years I’ve gotten to be his correspondent. We discussed Max’s roster of roommates past and present (including his beloved Sammy, with whom he’s pictured below). I’m convinced that he recognized their names, too!

But not all the news is serene in Max’s world this month. We’re quite concerned about Max’s continued weight loss. He recently lost nearly a third of a pound in just a week’s time. This prompted us to repeat an ultrasound, which revealed a small amount of free fluid in Max’s abdomen. This has nothing to do with his heart condition; fortunately, the same ultrasound confirmed that his heart is stable.

We’re currently doing bloodwork to find an explanation for that fluid, and we’re looking to schedule Max for an internal medicine consult. Whatever is ailing our boy, we’ll get to the bottom of it and do everything in our power on his behalf.

As you can see, Max was enjoying dinner during my recent visit. He was munching away while volunteers talked, and continued to take small bites as he listened to our conversation. Would you please send along a little positive reinforcement via good thoughts of our Max at dinnertime?

As always, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share Max’s news with you. Thank you for your generosity to Max through both good and challenging times. He is blessed to have the best of love and care here at Tabby’s Place, and we adore him.

This, he knows. Thank you for adoring him with us!
