Update for Adam

Happy February, friends!

Adam is excited that Valentine’s Day is here, and he sends you special hugs and kisses to mark the momentous occasion.

Adam has had a very good month, enjoying plenty of visits and lots of attention. He is so much more tolerant of petting now, and he seems to realize how enjoyable it is to be stroked. He has almost completely stopped nipping when being petted (at least by me), and he seems to seek it out when someone comes into the room.

On the medical front, our hyper boy has struggled with constipation this month. An enema helped temporarily, but for longer-term relief, we’ve started Adam on a medication that’s helped him in the past. Now, of course, we’ll need to monitor him to ensure he doesn’t develop diarrhea.

We’re also treating Adam’s entire suite for a frustrating intestinal parasite called giardia. Several of Adam’s roommates have tested positive for the parasite, and it’s very easily passed between cats, so we’re doing our best to stop this in its tracks before the cats pass it back and forth to one another.

Adam has enjoyed being a special part of our Paws to Read program. This is a bi-monthly program that invites children to come to Tabby’s Place and read books to some of our cats. Adam has the special designation of being a cat for staff children to read to. Adam adores the attention from the children, but unfortunately, his room is usually a bit of a poop minefield, and it would be hard to let just any small children spend 30-40 minutes in there without great explanation (and much exclamation from the kids!).

However, there are three kids who have parents who work at Tabby’s Place (and are therefore used to the idea of incontinent cats) who have gamely taken on the job of reading to Adam. He is in his glory! He absolutely loves the stories, and he has a great time on each visit with his new little friends. I’m thrilled that Adam is able to do this, because he is so very happy, and he has spent so much of his little life being confused as to how to be a cat. It appears that he is learning.

Adam wants to thank you so much for all that you do for him. He loves you and is so excited that you are part of his life. Please feel free to stop by and see him sometime. He would really appreciate it if you would bring a book with you! He especially likes books about cats named Adam. Have a wonderful month!
