Update for Adam

Happy August, friends!

Adam is reveling in the heat and hoping that you are staying cool and enjoying these last few weeks of summer.

Tabby’s Place’s forensics department can’t conclusively prove that it was Adam, but someone ate a mouse in Suite A this month. More precisely, someone ate the majority of a mouse, but was so thoughtful as to leave the disembodied head for us to discover. (Everyone has their theories on who actually ate the mouse, but my money’s on Adam.) Fortunately, that fracas was the only major news in Adam’s world this month, as our boy is stable and content.

As evidence of this contentment, Adam has been a very different tabby this month. He is (dare I say it?)…affectionate?! On all of my visits to the Suite A solarium this month, Adam has chosen to be present, not nippy or swatting, and asked to be petted. I have been able to stroke his back and pet his head numerous times each visit. It is a totally new experience for me. I am thrilled!

I know not to get too worked up over this exciting turn of events, since our silly boy can be rather unpredictable. The only reason I’m allowing myself a bit of hope is that this affection-seeking Adam is the cat I have now encountered on three different occasions over three different weeks. It has been at different times of day and different temperatures outside. It has even been on different days of the week. There is no pattern discernible other than Adam. He is the common denominator in this love fest.

I have to wonder if he has been getting some lessons from the three cats he now spends the most time with: Rose, Dawg (yes, we have a cat named Dawg) and Pepita.

Rose and Pepita have always been very outgoing and friendly. Dawg was previously very shy with me, but over the last few weeks, he has been the first cat to run to me and rub on my legs for attention. That has also added to my enjoyment when visiting Suite A.

Adam seems to be right in on the action with these three little sweeties these days. Peer pressure can be a wonderful tool for behavior sometimes. Let’s hope it sticks!

Just as I was getting really excited about this new loving Adam, a volunteer who cleans Suite A told me that Adam was being a bit of a jerk to some of his other suitemates. There has been nothing but peace in the solarium, but when he comes inside, apparently Adam feels the need to throw his weight around. It’s as though he feels the need to convince the inside-dwellers that, while he may spend most of his day outside, he is still the King of Suite A. I suppose some things will never change.

Oh well. I will take small victories in Adam’s behavior and rejoice. It has been many years of watching and hoping that this boy will learn to love appropriately. I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, thank you so much for all that you do for Adam and his friends. Have a wonderful month.
