Update for Tux

Dear Friends of Tux,

Dividing time between window seats and his desk bed, Tux is exploring friendships with other Community Room kitties. Tux and Shelley have been friends for a long time, but we were all charmed by their recent snuggle session in a particularly small bed. Tux is always willing to curl up with a good friend, but not all friends are snuggly friends. Dani enjoys a good nap on the corner desk table, but she is not one to share a bed with another kitty.

Tux has been in fairly good health this month. He experienced one day of excessive nausea and vomiting. We were never able to find a cause for the upset but were relieved that it resolved as quickly as it began.

Tux continues to watch (and listen) to the construction with minimal interest. He is still one of the few cats that aren’t upset by the loud noises overhead. Now that construction activities are old news, Tux is more excited by the return of birds to the window feeders.

May is a month of excitement and transformation. Perhaps I am somewhat skewed in my perspective because May also happens to be my birthday month. My birthday always falls close to Mother’s Day so I have always enjoyed celebrating with my mom. Since becoming a mother myself, over 18 years ago, it’s made the month of May all the more special.

Tux and Dani (who is not a snuggly friend).

The saying goes that April showers bring May flowers, but more than that, the month of May seems to combine a little bit of spring with a little bit of summer. Young fauna emerge and strike out on their own while human youth prepare to wrap up their school years. My firstborn is preparing to graduate from high school. May holds the promise for so much to come.

This particular May at Tabby’s Place is brimming with excitement and transformation. Our Quinn’s Corner expansion is moving closer to completion. We are hiring additional staff members and getting them fully trained so that we’ll be prepared when we open our doors to more kitties!

But the staff of Tabby’s Place is only one part of the Tabby’s Place family. You are another important part of the family because we couldn’t care for the kitties’ needs without your financial support and love! And there is another important part of Tabby’s Place, our volunteers.

Tux would love your help in expanding our family—with volunteers! Last month I mentioned our need for additional volunteers as we prepare for our Quinn’s Corner expansion. From cleaning to feeding to delivering tender affection, volunteers make a huge impact on our cats’ lives. If you have a heart for cats, we have a role perfectly fit for you at Tabby’s Place.

If you, or anyone in your own “family” of cat lovers, can come aboard, please visit our volunteer page, submit a volunteer application, or contact our Director of Volunteers, Karina Jewitt, at kj@tabbysplace.org. Volunteers must be 12 years or older, and a parent must accompany those under 16 during their volunteer shift. Please share this opportunity with your loved ones!
