Update for Steven

Handsome me!

Dear Team Steven,

The Ides of March are upon us, and here in New Jersey, they came in like a lion—roaring winds and cold, cold air.  It’s been a very long winter, and Tabby’s Place residents, staff, and volunteers are eager for warm spring days.

Sweet dreams of sunshine in the solariums and carriage rides around the property are part of every wistful cat nap. Oh, to watch a bird or butterfly in flight or see a bee settle softly on a flower in our memorial Cherny’s Garden! Steven and I hope you enjoy watching Mother Nature bringing our beautiful, verdant planet back to glorious life as much as we are.

The two of us would also like to extend a special thanks to Lisa for writing Steven’s February update. A bad bout with the flu laid me low for three weeks, and spending time with Steven or anyone at Tabby’s Place was out of the question. I’m so grateful Lisa was willing to pitch hit for me. That’s one of the wonderful things about Tabby’s Place: everyone works together so well to take care of the cats and grow our mission of helping friends in desperate situations. That includes you in particular, as Steven’s sponsor. His spirited well-being just wouldn’t be as wonderful without you. Thank you!

“Yes, young grasshopper, how can I teach/help you?”

Steven has been in good health and spirits this month, despite a few significant changes in the Medical Suite where he lives.  Staff observed his roommate, Lola, limping, and the vet team discovered a small cancerous tumor. In hopes of making her more comfortable and halting the spread of the cancer, her leg was amputated. She will recover in the home of our veterinary tech, Drew.

Baby, one of our diabetic cats, has joined Steven as his new roommate in the medical suite.  It is a comfortable arrangement, as Baby resided in the clinic once before and had grown irritated living with the other cats in the Lounge. At this juncture in Steven’s long life at Tabby’s Place, the new living arrangement is no big deal. If it helps keep Baby happy and puts an end to strife in the Lounge, he’s all for it. Even when he’s feeling a bit cranky, Steven is a “go along to get along” kind of guy.

We’re trying something new this month with our photographs of mellow orange fellow. In making our selections to share with you, we noticed that, while he is always gorgeous, Steven has a particularly handsome profile. In fact, these shots really highlight his regal, wise, and worldly countenance and demeanor. Steven was quite pleased with himself when he saw these pictures, and of course, keeping our gentle wunderkind content is a Tabby’s Place top priority.

Frankly, I think he’s earned the right to be a little smug about his considerable good looks. Steven is a senior gentleman who definitely knows how to age gracefully. Would that we could all do so well at it!

This is definitely my best side!

As always, Steven sends his love for you and tremendous gratitude for all you do. He is still basking in the glory of the Valentine’s Day visits he received this year. For those of you who had too far to travel or just couldn’t make a personal visit, our darling boy wants you to know just how precious you are to him. As Steven once told me, “Love knows nothing of distance and miles. My friends are as close as my beating heart.”
