Update for Sammy

Dear supporters of Sammy,

There are two ways to look at Sammy’s progress. Amid an influx of new roomies, she seems wedded to only one: Max. Despite the arrivals of new potential friends Galadriel, Lucille and Paco, Sammy has eyes for only one old tabby. And that’s okay.

When it comes to humans, Sammy is making loads of progress. When I came to visit recently, I found Sammy sitting outside her usual haunt, the tall cat tree. At least, that was was her usual haunt. As soon as she spotted me, she ran back for cover.

Undaunted, I crossed the room and reached in to pet Sammy. She leaned into my hand. Slowly, she started to relax. Then, she jumped out of the cat tree, slipped beneath the green chair and disappeared from view. Then, she reappeared and stuck her head out for more petting. Yes! Score one for me.

On another occasion, I found Sammy relaxing on top of a towel-draped crate on the side of the room. As I entered, she moved to join Max (of course) on the perch overlooking the lobby.

Surprisingly, Max protested at first. “There’s not room up here for both of us,” he seemed to be meowing. But then he jumped down and let Sammy take his place. How gallant!

So, any time Sammy is not hunkered down in the cat tree when I am in her suite, I consider it a point for me.

On my most recent visit, Sammy was out in the open again, and as I approached she casually looked up. She didn’t even seem like she wanted to run away. I petted her and whispered all the things I usually say to her. She purred. What progress! Fingers are crossed that it continues.

On the medical front, all is well. It’s always a pleasure to have no news to report in that area.

Sammy and I thank you, as always, for your continued generous support. Have a wonderful month.
