Update for Rose

Hi y’all! I called my correspondent at home and asked her to start on my update right away because I had BREAKING NEWS! I am so excited to share my news, and I must bring it to you first, because you are my beloved sponsor.

I am beside myself with joy at the Tabby’s Place program called “Aged to Perfection.” The program was designed to bring seniors to Tabby’s Place to have some purr therapy with us cats. Tabby’s Place is always thinking ahead and since the program is so well received, they decided to expand the program and bring cats to the nursing homes, so that residents who are not able to travel will receive their share of purr therapy.

The question I know you are asking is, who could be the special cats that get to visit the nursing home residents? I will give you a hint, how about a lil’ black-and-white Southern kitty with a tiny tail? You are correct, it is me!!!

Despite my kind personality, I actually had to “audition” for this very important role in the program. Check out the Tabby’s Place Facebook page and there is a video of my stroller audition! Karina, the Volunteer Director, took me in the Tabby’s Place stroller to a nearby pet store. The best thing about the stroller is that it is high off the ground and I could really feel the fresh air on my fur. Because I am incontinent I can’t always control when I might have a leak, so I wore a cute diaper. I was wheeled outside, rode in a car, and wheeled around the store. I met all kinds of new friends and I was evaluated. If I got upset or nervous, Tabby’s Place would never make me feel uncomfortable or out of place.

I passed! I passed! And I was able to go to the nursing home. The residents were so warm and welcoming, and I could see their happiness in their eyes. When I was brought to Tabby’s Place as a youngin’ I treasured every day in the sanctuary. I always wondered if one day I could “pay it forward” and share my kindness with others. Now I know how you must feel being my sponsor and making my world so happy. That day has come, and I know you would be so proud of me. The bonus is that my pal Pixie who is paraplegic (she was used for target practice and paralyzed), and I are both in the program.Tabby’s Place has so many wonderful supporters throughout our community, and beyond. The other day a whole group of volunteers from “Church & Dwight (a company that makes all the Arm & Hammer products, including kitty litter)” stopped by to deep clean the solarium floors. We needed to stay inside the suite while they were in the solarium, but the end product was worth it. The floors look amazing.

Speaking of supporters, the 5th Annual Kitten Shower and Adoption Event is scheduled for June 16, and we have the most amazing and generous sponsors. My correspondent will be giving tours and she promised to stop by Solarium A to say hi to me, and probably Steven, Pepita and maybe Adam. I am also looking for a lil’ black-and-white mini me kitten. I hope all the lil’ kittens find families, and a few, or maybe even a lot, of us older cats find homes.

I hit a small hiccup with my health this month. I had a mild upper respiratory infection, and am doing much better thanks to antibiotics and some extra TLC from staff and volunteers.

I hope that you have a wonderful Father’s Day! No matter if you are a Dad to a fur baby or to a human, or both, thank you for being Dad! Until next month, sending you whisker kisses!
