Update for Rose

Update for Rose

Greetings, dear sponsors,

It was a Saturday, just like any Saturday during the pandemic.  The sanctuary was so quiet that all I could hear over yonder were staff footsteps.  I curled up for an afternoon catnap and dreamed of the world turning right side up.  Have y’all ever had a dream that seemed so real that when you opened your eyes you were a bit disoriented?  Like when you are dreaming of a warm peach pie slowly baking in the oven, and wake up to find a peach on your nightstand?

My ears perked up during my nap, I thought that I heard my name being called, repeatedly.  Just as you see in the movies, in slow motion I opened my sleepy eyes, looked up, and there was my correspondent!  I did not believe my eyes because Tabby’s Place has not reopened yet to the public, so my correspondent could not be here to do tours and adoption counseling.  I blinked a few times, and my dream was a reality!  She picked me up and kissed me, and I was happier than playing with 100 catnip bananas!  A small group of volunteers was asked back to Tabby’s Place to help, and luckily my correspondent was included in this group.

In response to the pandemic, Tabby’s Place created extensive safety measures for staff and volunteers, which keep us cats safe too.  Temperature checks are taken before entering the sanctuary.  The number of humans in the building at one time is limited, and social distancing is practiced.  Masks must be worn by humans.  My correspondent helps with afternoon cleaning and laundry.  I followed her around as she sanitized common surfaces, doorknobs, baby gates, and refilled the Purell and rubber glove holders.  I watched as she mopped the laundry room floor and wished that I could help, too.  Every free second that she had she popped out to pet me.

It feels great to have her and at least some of the other volunteers back in the sanctuary.  Kitties can never have too much love and cat treats!  The staff are superheroes and have worked so hard these past few months to take care of us cats, they deserve some extra helping hands.

During the pandemic, we were gifted with lots of fun new cat toys.  I took a fancy to the cardboard house.  I do declare, I can spend many hours sitting in the house, gazing at the lobby doors to the outside world.  This is the purrfect Rose-size house.  When I see kind people dropping off cat food and toys at the front door, I walk over to say thank you!

Walter and I have become napping buddies both in boxes and on chairs.  Walter is such a sweet senior cat.  I no longer venture into Anka’s area, I am much safer outside of his world, and don’t want to be his snack!  Tabby’s Place created a new volunteer program to treat us cats to the open road.  The Curbside Volunteer program pairs up volunteers and cats for stroller rides.  Y’all know, I love me a good stroller ride!

I know that the world is still upside down, but I hope that you can still enjoy the warmth of the summer sun.  I think about you maybe a zillion times a day. I love you, and I thank you for being my sponsor.  I cannot imagine my life without you and Tabby’s Place.  I am a very lucky girl!

Humans and cats both love treats.  Well, I have a special treat for you.  Drumroll please…our dear friends at the blog “Lola the Rescue Cat” (bless their hearts) recently featured a guest blog about a li’l furry black-and-white southern kitty.  Hmmm, who could this be?  It is me!  My correspondent was so excited and proud to share my story with the world.  Here is the blog link, so please click on it and y’all enjoy:  Rose’s Feature Blog

Health update:  I do declare, I must have had a li’l ol’ froggie in my throat because I had some coughing episodes late in the month, and also showed a weight loss.  I am perplexed because I am in the “clean plate club” for every meal.  Our stellar vet team ran bloodwork, and the only thing that showed up was an elevated white blood count, so I was started on a round of antibiotics.  I am Rose, I am resilient, and this too shall pass.

Stay safe so that we can meet up one day soon.  Sending you sunshine-filled whisker kisses!

Love,
Rose
