Update for Pepita

Update for Pepita

Hello to our Sweet Pumpkin Seed Lovers!

Did you celebrate our gentle girl on National Pumpkin Seed Day, the first Wednesday in October? Nowadays there is a day to celebrate everything, and this day was made for our lovely fur baby.

Pumpkin seeds without shells are known as pepitas! Did you know that pumpkin seeds have been traced back as far as 7000 BC, according to archeologists excavating a tomb in central Mexico? And that they are revered as an essential and powerhouse source of food and nutrition?

Our Pepita is an essential powerhouse of the type of food and nutrition—LOVE—that nourishes our soul. Spending just a few minutes with her has an amazing effect on your spirits, an effect that can last all day.

Speaking of having an effect, you have been a huge part of the effect Tabby’s Place has had in its 21 years of existence (celebrating that anniversary this month):  saving nearly 4500 cats from hopeless situations! They say “it takes a village,” and we are so glad and grateful you are in ours. Because of all that you are, Tabby’s Place gets to be all that it dreams of being.

Another reason for celebrating you and all the incredible donors and sponsors that make Tabby’s Place a reality is the incredible success of our Linda Fund Matching Challenge this year. The funds raised during this effort cover medical costs for our cats in greatest need.  We not only met our goal but did so early, thanks to the kindest of hearts who believe in our mission. Thank you!

I’m getting sleeeeepy…

Back to Pepita. Unfortunately, Pepita is having another flare of her skin issues, resulting in hair loss along her back. We are increasing her dose of allergy medications that typically help to resolve the issue and hope she enjoys calm skin very soon.

With the arrival of fall here in the Northeast, the days are turning crisp, and the foliage is ablaze with color! Pepita has been very much enjoying her outdoor solarium time, as there is nothing quite like napping with a fresh breeze and waking to watch the leaves skittering across the Memorial Walkway. (I am so happy to have the bricks of my own two Tabby’s Place alumni kitties, Lester and Fontina, right outside Pepita’s solarium).

She is almost always found outside rather than in the suite. It’s unclear if this is entirely by choice or a side effect of the access tube frequently being occupied by Bing and Lily. In either case, you can see that she knows how to burrow a bit if the temps get chilly.  Pepita did not share whether she was able to see the Northern Lights that graced our part of the country last week, but I do know they were seen very close to Tabby’s Place!

When fall brings a little chill, Pepita covers up in the solarium

I hope that this amber, crunchy, cozy fall season brings you much joy and happiness as we gear up for a busy November and December. Thank you again for your steadfast loyalty to Pepita and to all the Tabby’s Place cats.
