Update for Pepita

Dear Team Pepita,

It’s been a whirlwind month for me, I must admit.  Shortly after my last update to you, my husband and I adopted 4 precious furry babies from Tabby’s Place.  Not kittens, but grown-up cats—two who come with the wisdom of senior age and two who are a bit younger. They are all the most wonderful felines, with a few special needs mixed in.  One of my fellow board members named them the ‘Fab 4!’

Needless to say, we’ve been super busy getting ready for them, getting them introduced to each other, and acclimated.  We have found our home once again filled with the love that I know you understand so deeply. If only I felt we could have cared for Pepita properly, she could have been in our little clan. Her special needs are greater than we could handle, and that is why Tabby’s Place, with your incredible help, can take such good care of her.

Now back to the main news about your sweet girl, Pepita.  In my last update, I reported that Pepita had lost some weight and that additional tests were being run.  Pepita’s lab work came back with everything within normal limits. Her weight has stabilized, but we will continue to check her every two weeks so nothing is missed.

When I saw her today on this thankfully cool morning, she dashed into the solarium for her breakfast, joined there by a whole crew of Suite A mates.  They are all on a special diet for their special needs, so initially, they turn up their cute noses at the offerings.  But after I left the room and peeked back in, I saw they were all eating their breakfasts—maybe not with gusto, and maybe not knowing that the food is indeed part of their loving care from Tabby’s Place.  But one has to eat!

Later when I stopped in to provide her with a new paper bag and say my goodbyes (as my shift was over), she was full of love and fun. I know she is probably lounging out there now and napping in the warmth of the afternoon, as it is a sunny and warm, but not too humid day—perfect for solarium napping.  Pepita is so rarely in a bad mood that I think of her as the ever-optimistic, ever-happy, ever-sweet Miss Sunshine!

In broader Tabby’s Place news, our Quinn’s Corner expansion continues, and the cats in the Community Room, Employee Lounge, Lobby, and Sanctuary Operations Director’s office have a front-row seat for the goings-on. I wonder what is running through their minds as they watch the big dirt mover machines and men in hard hats doing all the construction work. One day they will all know that the expansion means even more cats with super special needs can be cared for, and they will purr with approval!

Pepita and I thank you again for all you do for her, and wish you a glorious end to your summer, with much love and laughter.
