Update for Pepita

Update for Pepita

Dearest Friends of Pepita,

You can feel it in the air… hope!  This spring is a special one for us as hope seems to be in the air and the opportunity to return to once taken-for-granted activities that have been missing for so many months.

Pepita is looking forward to Tabby’s Place reopening… first to additional volunteers to shower her with even more attention than she already receives.  And then to those looking to adopt cats, and to visitors, when we start to open the doors once again.  We are planning it all out and knowing we still need special care to keep our staff, volunteers, and kitties safe, but the path will soon be defined and the steps will soon take hold.  This is a huge bright spot for so many volunteers who have not been able to be at the sanctuary for so very long.

Meanwhile, Pepita continues with her springtime fun—stroller rides with her special strolling volunteers and the other cats who stroll alongside, naps in the solarium—with fresh breezes and sunshine to enjoy—and treats and playtime, too.  She always seems so bright and cheerful to me and is as glad to see me as I am to see her on my weekly visits!

Our gentle girl has welcomed a few new kitties to Suite A. There is Roxy —a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who is the exact opposite of the typical feistiness of a tortie.  She is calm and sweet and adds nicely to the wonderful personalities in Suite A.  Carbon, who came from Lebanon, is the most recent addition, and—you guessed it—he’s an all-black furball, who is also affectionate and sweet.  Angelo , a long-time Suite A resident, moved into the medical suite (but not in hospital) recently to reside with Luna (who is not so sure about this new roomie), as Angelo’s diet can be much better controlled there than in a larger suite.

On the medical front, Pepita’s skin irritation and hair loss improved so much that she was taken off her allergy medication… for about a week. Unfortunately, the hair loss started up again shortly after, so she is back on the meds. She seems to respond quite well to the medication and may end up needing this longer-term at a low dose. Pepita is an easy kitty to medicate—if you can catch her. She likes to hide. But, darn it!   As the month came to a close, it seemed that Pepita once again may have contracted a urinary tract infection. I’ll keep you posted on the latest health news again next month.

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you” notes John Bunyan.  We can never repay your amazing generosity of spirit and support for Pepita and the work we do at Tabby’s Place.  All we can do is continue to let you know that we cannot do the work of caring for kitties such as Pepita without you!

Wishing you a beautiful May!
