Update for Olive

Hello, Sponsors of Olive!

My name is Kim, and I am a longtime volunteer at Tabby’s Place. When I was asked to be the guest-writer for Olive this month, I was happy to say yes! I know and love her so well…

Let me start with the most important news: Olive’s health. This past month, our staff observed that Olive seems to be experiencing some discomfort in her back legs. They have been especially careful when expressing and diapering her, and will monitor this closely. As always, everyone at Tabby’s Place is diligent about keeping an eye on Olive, and we will always make sure she is comfortable.

As Chief Meeter and Greeter, Olive holds a position of authority. The other cats respect her, the staff nods with understanding, and Olive knows she is the boss!

One of Olive’s favorite things is to ride through our gardens as part of The Stroller Program. I am honored to be in charge of this program, which allows our cats to enjoy the great outdoors safely.

Of course, not every resident is a fan of riding in a stroller. Our staff nominates cats they think would enjoy the program, then evaluates them for comfort and ease of management. Safety is always our number one concern.

Some of the cats in our Stroller Program (not including Olive) also travel off-campus for our Aged to Purrfection Program. These certified therapy cats bring joy at local nursing homes and other care facilities. Closer to home, Olive loves to ride through Cherny’s Garden.

She looks forward to her strolls, and so does our team. She watches the butterflies and birds and listens to human conversation. We sometimes play peaceful music, or just speak quietly to the cats. For a cat like Olive, I am her “legs” when we stroll. She has a feeling of motion, strength, and endurance that she gets from no other activity.  It is really extraordinary to witness her confidence, and I value this special time I spend with her.

As you might guess, Olive is “staff only” when it comes to being placed in and extracted from the stroller. But another miracle of the stroll is the way it mellows Olive’s mood. The peace that greets us when we unzip the lid is truly remarkable!

Thank for your generous monthly support. You help to give Olive a life of good health, peace and contentment. If you are ever in our area on a sunny fall afternoon, Olive would love to see you.

Thank you for the joy of sharing Olive’s news with you.

Your correspondent,
Kim
