Update for Newman

Happy September, Team Newman.

Newman has had a blissful month. I recently visited Newman while Hurricane Hermine was heading at a snail’s pace toward New Jersey. Newman was not only not concerned, all he wanted to do was sleep. It was a beautiful September day, and he was making the most of it.

Newman has long been a top contender for the title of “nicest cat at Tabby’s Place.” This month, he strengthened his case by serving as the “starter cat” for our newest staff member. New staffer Rebecca had to be initiated into “weights and nails”, and our seasoned veterans knew Newman would be the safest, sweetest place to start.

This monthly event involves our brave staff weighing and trimming the nails of every cat in the sanctuary. Newman is perhaps the single easiest cat to handle for this, although his best bud Buddy (pictured below, with Newman snuggled up to his butt) is also a top contender. As shy as he can be, Buddy’s one of Tabby’s Place’s most cooperative cats for weights and nails. As you can imagine, many of our cats are far from docile for this endeavor. Buddy, however, is a gentleman, allowing our staff to do what they must with little protest. It seems the FIV suite is full of gentlemen.

Fellow suitemate Dwayne (pictured at right) has been causing quite a stir lately. He is a long-haired beauty who had a lot of matting, which was making him a little uncomfortable. Now he is a lion! And if you saw this gentle guy in person, you would easily see that his lion cut fits him perfectly. He is one of those kitties who demands your attention. And if you had any thought of ignoring him, you can think again; he gets extremely vocal to let you know what he wants, and that he wants it now.

Likewise, sweet Adelaide has her own way of making it known what she expects. When she hasn’t been approached by a visitor within a split second of entry into the suite, she will approach said visitor and attempt to climb on them — gently and ever-so-sweetly, of course. After all, she is quite a lady. Newman has a higher threshold, but if he does get impatient, he will sometimes gently paw me.

So, Newman adorers, know that Newman is ever-so-gently pawing you, saying hello and sending you his love. He hopes that one day he can paw you in person, and thank you for your caring, generosity and love. Thank you for your ever present support.

Have a wonderful month!
